[PLAYER RATINGS] Arsenal 1-0 Man Utd: How The Gunners Got On

By on May 1, 2011

Pride restored, and job well done. Some may retrospect on ‘If we had performed in the last few matches’, but to hell with that. Lets get down to whats important. We won, they lost, and we deserved it more. Arsenal 1-0 Manchester United.

Now to the Ratings…

Szczesny– Was really good in goal and learnt his lesson from Spurs. Quite hysterical, the manner in which he was playing around with Owen in the final minutes….8

Sagna – Arsenal ‘s joint player of the season for me. No nonsense defending and some great crosses. Got one on his thigh but did not cry like that Alves’ dog….9

DJ (subbed off) – Got out of some tight situations. Good defending, hope he is not out for the rest of the season…8

Kosher – Great defending and he commanded his zone confidently. He did make error that could have cost us when he half-heartedly tackled Rooney, leaving the back exposed. 7

Clichy – Great heading off the ball away every time is was crossed towards Valencia. But he gave the ball away too many times, though he gave some good lobbed passes to RVP…7

Song– Great game. He was everywhere, did not make stupid tackles & tamed the ‘Golden boy of Manchester’…8

Jack – Not one of his best games yet highly effective. He put in his shift as usual, and it was a game of 2 halves for him. He needs to work on his shooting. He was the reason Song could get caught out a few times. Keeps running and has great common sense while playing…7.5 ( loved it when he powered his way from Shrek causing him to get booked which was in all honesty not a booking.)

Ramsey– Gift from above. Great distribution, was the only one changing wings. Defended really well. And of course a great goal. Great positioning !…9

Walcott-Decent game as he put some great crosses in from nowhere.-“Most notably the Vidic Handball.” He did track back, however takes too long on the ball and has a bad first touch…7

RVP– Although a quiet game from the Dutchman, yet claimed one assist. Could have had many more. Should have got on the end of some of Walcott’s crosses…7

Nasri– Another quiet game for the Frenchman as he looked burned out…6

Substitutes:

Arshavin-Good game from the Russian who was the only calm Arsenal player trying to keep the ball rather than play it forward. Created some good counter attacks for us and got us a free kick. But most of all put in some great tackles at either end and tracked back well Looking forward to him starting in the coming weeks…8

Eboue– No silly mistakes. Was anonymous but the attacks from the right were limited after he was brought on. N/A

SQ18– Slow but his experience did help… 6.5

PS: NEMANJA VIDIC THOUGH A FANTASTIC DEFENDER IS A DISGUSTING DIRTY LITTLE C**T.

Guns-out,

I thought song was motm actually, and the tactical switch to actually use him as a defensive midfielder was certainly the key to the game. As you say, he made sure rooney couldn’t do much. I think if he’d been playing this position all season, we would have breezed through a few of the games that we made look difficult and might have turned a couple of draws into wins.
Ramsey was brilliant as you say, he is quicker and his movement off the ball is much better than I thought, but I also thought theo did well. He was a little unlucky a couple of times, but he pinned them back and worried them a few times. He also might have had a lovely assist had vidic not intervened with his hand. Didn’t think he should have come off because he is easily our most effective counter-attacking weapon, and he was worrying them up until the substitution imo.

what RIDICULOUS ratings. you clearly have not one scooby. the main reason we won were united were appalling. Clichy 7?, Arshavin 8? you know nothing about this club- about its current pitfalls or where its going.

@skeeter, I agree all the ratings have probably been raised by a point coz of the the elation of the win but your arguments saying he knows nothing about the CLUB are groundless and makes it look like your judging the ratings on past performances, clichy and arshavin were given those rating based on much improved performances today, especially arshavin defensively and have nothing to do with mistakes or poor performances throughout the season as a whole

as for my opinion on the ratings, fairly accurate if a bit optimistic, we played well but not well enough to warrant 2 9s and 3 8s imo, but overall that seems about right, I’d have rated koscielny above djourou though his anitcipation was brilliant, especially late on in the game

The ratings are based on the performance today., not from the past, so just put aside your hatred, skeeter. We knew Clichy and Arshavin had a difficult season but today they were both amazing and they deserve to get credit after suffering a so long critics.

      Love the word Alves’dog too.

i think the ratings are based on the current match and in this case they deserve them 4sure. For ur case ive never watched man u taking up the game wenever they play arsenal only that they hve always used the chances well than arsenal

Our position in the league hurts me even more having seen today what we can achieve if we just fight to get the ball back. Still not enough shots on target

Usual negative Gooner supporter nonsense. Our biggest issue is these fans with negative attitudes. Classic profanity pointed at Vidic.

Watched the game live from San Francisco bar packed with 50 Gooner fans. The 3 fans from England had repeated profanity laced tirades whenever there a close up of a Man U player was shown. The tribal venomous anger outlet is an tension release for many English fans, especially Gooners. They like nothing more than to plead for wholesale firing of half the team and manager after any draw or loss. As you can tell I’m tired of the moronic negativity and lack of any loyal support for a manager and team that is actually very good.

Positive Gooner supporters & team forever!

        why so?

im a life long gooner fan.. i have been to watch many arsenal games, home and away! including many many away games in the Champions league.

but now i live in the United States.. does this make me a arsenal fan that is not worthy of a comment?

        i forgot to add,

so just because that guy is a homo and lives in San Fransisco.. dont mean that he cant comment..

tho he does need to quit crying about the sheer hatred we have for united and the fact we hate to lose and hate the man in charge that has the power to change us from pretenders, to contenders..(Real contenders).

Wilshere didn’t have a good game? Why? To me it seems like he was the one who ran the most. Surged forward in attack every opportunity, yet he was also always to find in defence when united attacked. Calm and good with the ball, rarely gave it away. He runs with the ball well, and has a great passing range. I think he was one of the top performers. Of course the whole Arsenal team performed fantastic. CB’s didn’t make stupid decisions, and the midfielders worked really hard. Chicharito was anonomous the whole game, and Shrek didn’t have the ball, thanks to the hard work of Wilshere, Song and the CB pairing. Good to see Ramsey back, and he and Wilshere are definitely the future midfield pairing alongside Song, now that Fabregas looks certain to leave.

It amazes me how bad the eyesight is of these people officiating. There was a definite attempt in the first half of an elbow by the Mexican on Sagna and yet it wasn’t seen. A well deserved win for the lads spoilt only for me by the bringing on of the Ivory Coast’s answer to Gunnersaurus whom we have have to thank for his braindead conceding of a penalty against Liverpool. How important those 2 points could have been for us. What Wenger sees in this clown mystifies me. Yeah, he may be great in the dressing room, but he certainly isn’t great on the pitch and I really thought we’d seen the last of him. He was the last one off the pitch milking it for all his worth and trying to work his way back into the crowd’s good books. The bloke is such a crawler.

      @Crusader!
It’s a pity that some gooner fans carry their hatred of certain players beyond reason. Granted Eboue goofed in the Liverpool game, but hello!the ratings was about d game with the Mancs and Eboue did nothing wrong. Wonder how u rated him after the Blackpool game where he scored a wonderful goal!

    Just a few points today..
Firstly great result and have got to say we deserved our victory as we played like a real team its just a pity we do this after surrendering so many silly points this season, hopefully we will keep fabregas and bring in one or two additions to the squad (after getting rid of some of the deadwood at our club first)..
Second I thought vidic got away with murder, AGAIN. Should have been booked for a blantant professional foul on wilshire and should have been sent off for another blantant violation of the rules and still nothing, officials open your eyes please..
Third thought Clichy score of 7 was far to high for my liking as he almost cost us the game with his typical crazy suicidal defending, was just like the eboue challenge against liverpool. Why do something that stupid when we have the game in the palm of our hand, lucky for us the officials missed it but they owed that much at least..
Fourth thought arshavin was mint. He made at least 4 great sliding challenges to win us the ball and his workrate and passing was very good. I have to admit I’m not a “arshavin hater” felt he has been made a scape-goat in a lot of games where other players have been just as bad..
Lastly glad to see ramsey back, hope he continues to do well after such a hard year
