Arsenal Transfer Target Wins PFA Award

By on May 2, 2011

Arsenal transfer target Emilio Izaguirre has bagged the PFA Scotland Player of the Year award with Celtic.

The left back beat team-mate Gary Hooper, Old Firm rival Steven Naismith and Kilmarnock’s Alexei Eremenko to the award at a ceremony in Glasgow. Arsenal were looking to him as a potential long term replacement for the potentially departing Gael Clichy.

The Honduran has had a splendid season so far, although he only has a solitary goal to show for it, yet he gets many assists. A player with a similar playing style to the likes of Sergio Ramos and Dani Alves, Johan Mjallby, Celtic’s assistant manager has put his name forward as one of the best in his position.

This will certainly help his credentials in trying to get that big move to Arsenal, although it is yet to be seen whether Arsene Wenger is willing to stump up the cash to make this move possibly in the summer.

Gael Clichy will also have a part in this transfer, with him yet to agree a contract extension with the Gunners, and is rumoured to be a target for Barcelona.

“Trying to get that ‘BIG’ move to Arsenal???” Who says he’s trying to get a big move anywhere, and – Arsenal?? Hmmm. He’s only been at Celtic one season and by all accounts he’s very happy there. He’s been closely monitored by a whole list of top clubs, their managers frequently spotted attending Celtic games and some from much bigger clubs than Arsenal. There’s interest from Europe as well – he’s a native Spanish speaker so you can guess. Let them all sniff as much as they want. This bhoy won’t be going anywhere cheaply.

These journalists talk some pish! Not once has Emilio even suggested leavin Paradise. Why would he want to go to a team that’s won nothing in years and don’t look like winning anything in the near future! Hopefully he”ll be wearing the hoops for another few seasons, then possibly move on to a class team like Barca 🙂 Hail! Hail! Izzy Bhoy. .. YNWA

See this is the problem.,Celtic will want silly money for him, possibly in excess of €20,000,000 will Arsenal be willing to stump up that sort of money for an SPL player ? It will be one hell of an expensive gamble.Plus the player himself has already indicated he wants to play CL football with Celtic and with the EPL losing a lot of the glamour it once had,and him speakng spanish its more likely Celtic woud offer Barcelona first refusal in order to help him dvelop as a player

The “problem” is Celtic want to keep hold of him, and Kayal and Hooper and the rest of this very talented squad who have been attracting scouts and managers from English and European clubs. Celtic aren’t in any kind of financial diffs and have little or no debts and a very healthy turnover and a huge rock solid fanbase. If they want to offer silly money and huge wages then sure Celtic might sell. But not to any penny pinching club who think they’re a bigger club than Celtic just cos they play in England.

Please arsene wenger add four or five players to complete squard to win every thing, people like sakho, paker, cahil, mikel ateta or modric. i believe this players will at least make the team to be more than invicible gunners. Let danilson, vela, rosicky, bendner, eboue, almunia, squilachi, let them go.

Typical Old Firm attitude, being a big fish in a small pond is hardly much of a challenge but you seem to enjoy deluding yourselves.
You regularly get your arse handed to when you play any quality team in the Champions league. Eduardo dived when you played us but what happened with the other five goals? Bunch of muppets!

Thank you for the sensible critique. Me and my neighbor were just preparing to do some research on this. We got a grab a book from our local library but I think I learned more clear from this post. I’m very glad to see such magnificent info being shared freely out there.
