The Rapid Fall of Arsenal & Tottenham

The two North London clubs; Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur. Both of them have dropped off the pace rapidly towards the end of the season and here’s my take on it.

We’ll look at Arsenal first, then at Tottenham and then both as a whole.

Arsenal

The ’88 minute Mentality’ seems to be a problem for Arsenal this season, call it lack of drive or simply the lack mental strength in their squad, but Arsenal simply can’t last the distance. This was especially emphasized against Liverpool. Can you seriously tell me how in the world they conceded after scoring that goal 6 minutes into added time?!

Personally, as a Liverpool Fan, I honestly admit that Arsenal kinda deserved the three points, simply because Liverpool had nothing offensively minded to offer up until after RvP’s penalty goal.

‘Too many dropped points” I always hear the commentators say about Arsenal’s season, as they have dropped way too many points from a winning position, over 15 points i believe.  Arsenal simply need a reshuffle in their squad. Now they have the funding, let’s see what they can do with it.

Tottenham

I shall compare this with a Liverpool example once again. Look at it from my perspective, remember back then when apparently Tottenham had ‘a shot at winning the Premier League this season’? Well, compare that to Liverpool being ‘dangerously close to relegation’ during the Hodgson era.

If you want to play in the Premier League, you simply can’t drop so many points. And look at where Tottenham are now, languishing a place below Liverpool, without even a spot in Europe to play in the Europa League, perhaps a league that noone wants to play.

GOALKEEPERS

Both teams have had their fair share of issues to do with their goalkeepers this season, the main culprits of both these teams are Gomes (need we say much more) and Almunia (perhaps we don’t even have to talk about this one)

Who could forget the mistakes, Gomes’ mistake against Blackpool where he saved a penalty and then conceded one 30 seconds later, or the howler at Stamford Bridge. And Almunia, remember West Brom, both home and away? Racing out to meet the ball, and letting a simple shot squirm into the net?

Both Arsenal and Spurs should be looking to sign a top goalkeeper this summer.
