Transfer News: Ronaldo To Return? Wenger To Break Transfer Policy? Blues Line-up Argentine

By on May 26, 2011

As we head closer and closer to the opening of the summer transfer window, here are some transfer rumours concerning Chelsea, Man City, Arsenal and Manchester United.

Chelsea and Man City on alert for Aguero

Aguero is unsettled at Madrid, and Chelsea and Manchester City are set to pounce on the Argentinian. The lack of silverware has been cited as the reason behind Aguero’s intentions of leaving. Chelsea are looking for younger strikers to back up the aging Anelka and Drogba.

Whilst Manchester City are aiming to replace outgoing Tevez with Aguero so that they won’t miss ‘Carlitos’ so much for next season should he really leave in the summer.

Alex Ferguson Opens Door For Ronaldo

Another Madrid player whom is unsettled. Reported by be on the transfer list for a value of 150 million euros following a row with Joe Mourinho, Christiano Ronaldo has been linked with a sensation return to Man Utd as the Sun here mentions:

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has opened the door for Cristiano Ronaldo to make a sensational return to Old Trafford.

The Sun

So a Manchester United return for the Real Madrid man? Who knows!

Arsene Wenger shows signs of dropping his transfer policy? Noooo, right?

Probable the most useless and un-newsworthy article of the day. Arsene Wenger has apparently said to The Daily Mirror that a move for French striker Karim Benzema “doesn’t seem impossible”. A player that will cost over £20 million and will require over £100,000 per week?

It’s Arsene Wenger for goodness sake, the Daily Mirror certainly need to buck up their ideas.

None of these stories are genuine news.

Aguero does want to leave, but he’s more likely to link up with his father-in-law Diego Maradona at Inter Milan. Diego has been there before and supposedly is going to get another job this season coming, helping the negotiation efforts for Kun. He’s not likely to want to play for Chelsea because of their instability and usual playing style, and City aren’t established in world football, so I reckon those transfers are less likely.

United would love Ronaldo to return, but they’ll be afraid to alienate their current no. 7 Michael Owen. Ha! They’d love CR7 back at the club, and Rooney would be ecstatic to link up with his old mate. According to Guillem Ballague Ronaldo hasn’t been impressed with Real’s set-up, by comparison to United’s way of operating. This underwhelming working environment, coupled with a lack of trophies is compounded by repeated arguments with Mourinho, over tactics and responsibilities. That being said, as if Real Madrid will allow Ronaldo to leave, he’s the best player they’ve ever had! More likely is that Jose will find himself out of a job if it reaches breaking point.

Arsenal throwing money around? You know it isn’t that crazy, they threw 17mil at Reyes a couple years back, and I believe Arshavin was 14m to rise to 17m with stipulations. Benzema is VERY unlikely to leave, bearing in mind he’s Real’s president’s signing.

Wenger doesn’t spend money on established players, but he will shell out on kids, as he’s shown with prospects like Walcott, Ramsay and Wilshere. He might pick up a defender who knows his business but I can see him picking up a winger/forward to replace Arshavin and provide competition for Nasri and Walcott. He doesn’t want to leave Fabregas, Wilshere or Song out of his team so why would he buy a centre mid?

All that being said, Wenger will only be spending up to 50mil, and that’ll be on 3-4 players. The man’s a genius, but just like all true occasions of genius, it’s coupled with complete madness and eccentricity. Still, this is the guy who made Henry a legend and put together the unbeaten Invincibles. He’s due a break at some point and I can see everything just clicking in the next few years and Arsenal going on to win a double. They just need some toughness and mental steel to get to the top of the mountain
