Liverpool are intent on adding fresher, younger players to their squad and they have identifield James McCarthy as one of those players.

According to football website Goal.com, the midfielder has made up his mind that he wants to move to the Merseyside club this coming summer. The deal would fetch a fee of around 10 million pounds, after Wigan dropped their earlier asking price of 16 million.

Kenny Dalglish, Liverpool’s new permanent manager, is a known admirer of the player and wants to bring the startlet to Anfield. To add to that, Director of Football, Damien Comolli also sees the Wigan man as someone who can take Liverpool forward.

It is 90 per cent done, all sides now seem to accept it is going to happen and it’s a matter of everyone trying to get the best deal

A source told Goal.com

McCarthy turned down a move to Liverpool last year whilst he was still at Hamilton Academicals as he felt that his first team ambitions would have been better served with a move to Wigan, a deal worth 1.2 million pounds.

McCarthy can play both as a central midfielder and operating as a left-sided midfielder, although it’s beleived Liverpool will use him to fill the void on the left side of their midfield.
