Friedel’s Move To Spurs Spells The End For Gomes?

Veteran goalkeeper Brad Friedel has agreed to sign for Tottenham Hotspur on a two-year contract.

His arrival might put Heurelho Gomez on the bench next season as the Brazilian has endured a miserable season at White Hart Lane – making some costly errors during the course of the campaign.

Many Tottenham Hotspur fans have certainly lost their faith in Gomes. Yes, at his best, he is able to pull off  some fine saves but at his worst, he’s just horrible to watch sometimes.

The arrival of an experienced goalkeeper and already having a good-enough backup on the bench (Carlo Cudicini), could this spell the departure of Heurelho Gomes from White Hart Lane?

Friedel was snapped up by Aston Villa back in July 2008 and broke the record for consecutive top-flight appearances when he lined up for a 167th straight game the following year.

Today, the 40-year-old has extended his unbelievable run to an unprecedented 275 matches and will definitely be aiming to establish himself as Spurs’ number one for the new season.

Manager Harry Redknapp is obviously in buoyant mood following his first major signing in the current transfer window.

Brad is a top goalkeeper of real quality who has great experience.

It is good to have three such experienced top goalkeepers at the club in Gomes, Carlo (Cudicini) and now Brad and it means we have competition for places particularly with the number of games we will hopefully face next year both domestically and in Europe as well.
