Chelsea Set To Increase Bid For Modric This Weekend

Tottenham ace Luka Modric will be subject to another increased bid from Chelsea, according to reports.

Spurs received a bid in the region of £22m earlier on this week which was immediately rejected by Tottenham, with Harry Redknapp branding the bid as “ridiculous,” however this has done little to deter Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.

The Russian billionaire is set to offer an additional £6m for the Croatian bringing the total package to around £28m.

The 25-year old is thought to be a target to replace the aging Frank Lampard but reports indicate that £28m may not be enough to prize the midfielder away from White Hart Lane.

After failing to secure Champions League football last season, Spurs face a battle to hang onto the talented midfielder, but the Croatian’s agent has indicated Modric is happy at Spurs:

“He’s happy at Spurs. Any offer that comes [in] for him, it’s up to the decision of Tottenham Hotspur if they want to reject it or accept it. We have a great partnership with Tottenham and there’s not been [any] activity on our behalf that we would do on our own.

“Everything is in coordination with Spurs, and it’s all up to the chairman, Daniel Levy, to decide. [Luka’s] under contract, he’s happy there [and] he’s willing to try to win the Premiership with Spurs and play Champions League [the] next season.”

The ball seems very much in Tottenham’s court, the North London club may want to cash in on the player but Chairman Daniel Levy has indicated the player will not be sold as they aim to mount a challenge on the title next season.

***UPDATE: Since the writing of this article Modric has expressed his desire to leave Tottenham and join Chelsea should they submit a suitable offer for him***
