Pele: I Told Neymar Not To Join Chelsea

By on June 24, 2011

Football and Brazilian legend Pele told Chelsea target Neymar not to join Chelsea last season.

The 19-year has been strongly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge but his fellow countrymen told the promising youngster to remain in Brazil after an approach from Chelsea last summer. The South American legend said:

“Neymar could play in Spain. It is the kind of football that is suited to his characteristics?

“Eight months ago he could have gone to England, but I told his father that this style is not for him.”

It remains to be seen if the Santos star will join Chelsea with Real Madrid also bidding for the samba star. However, Neymar looks set to leave Brazil this summer with Chelsea or Madrid the most likely destination.

Neymar needs to leave Brazil. He is losing out on the precious experience that his compatriots Luiz and Ramires are getting. It’s understandable that Santos and key Brazilian’s (Pele) are trying to give him reasons to stay, no one likes to lose a good player. But if Neymar wants to become the world’s best player, he has to move. There are rumours about him going to Real Madrid, but it’s unlikely that Madrid will pay Santos more than Chelsea; they don’t have the same spending power. And even if they could out bid Chelsea, Neymar would be dominated by Ronaldo, who plays in a similar position. Neymar needs to be in a team where he can make his own mark. Chelsea is his best option, let’s hope Chelsea make Neymar another offer, otherwise the price on his head could keep him at Santos a long time. Neymar has the potential to impact the English Premiership like Messi impacted La Liga. The crucial thing is this: does Neymar have the courage and ambition to leave Brazil? For Neymar’s sake I hope so.

Gary .. couldn’t agree more with you… sometimes I wonder if the Real talk is to make sure cfc pays that buyout clause… plus based on his fighting skills id say he is ready for the physicality of the premier league!

Pele can’t see the future and he is not the one who can decide Neymar’s future . If Neymar go to Real Madrid , he can’t get his own position because there are world best strikers like C.Ronaldo , Benzema and Higuain . So he should choose Chelsea instead of Real Madrid . I think he will get success in Chelsea . Hoping Santos will accept Chelsea’s offer instead of Real Madrid’s offer .

I bliv neymar is old enuf 2 decide 4 himself. Even a dullard shld knw dat chelsea are tryin 2 recruit more 4wards n his goin 2 av more opportunities in chelsea dan real madrid. Pele is a great player, i admire dat, but i tink he is tryin 2 play mind games wit brazilian yungstars so dat dey wuld nt overcome him as brazilian’s greatest. Rememba wat he did 2 robinho. Nw robinho is no more. Neymar tink twice b4 u go anywhere.
