Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed star striker Wayne Rooney will NOT be risked in tomorrow nights champions league second leg against Bayern Munich.

Rooney sustained an ankle injury during Manchester United’s 2-1 defeat last week and  was  subsequently ruled out for 3 weeks. Recent reports had suggested he was being rushed back for a spectacular return, but Fergie has now insisted that he will not risk further injury to Rooney’s ankle by playing him against Bayern Munich at Old Trafford tomorrow.

At his pre-match press conference this afternoon, Ferguson had this to say on Rooney:

“He’s got no chance.

“We’ve made some good progress with the lad, the medical team have done fantastic, but I’m not prepared to take a risk on a player who is not 100% fit.”

Ferguson then added: “The boy is making good progress. The medical team have done a fantastic job, but it is an ankle injury the same as any other ankle injury.

“You can’t take a risk with a player who is not 100%.

“I don’t think he will be on the bench although he might talk me into it, it is a difficult one.”
