[VIDEO GOALS] Arsenal 2-2 Boca Juniors: Squillaci & Djourou Errors Blow 2-goal Lead
By Football Talk Published: 30th July 2011Familiar problems reared their heads for Arsenal as defensive mistakes let Boca Juniors come from 2-0 down to rescue a 2-2 draw on day 1 of the Emirates Cup. Arsenal took the lead through Robin van Persie, summer signing Gervinho burst down the left and squared for the striker to slot home. Aaron Ramsey then doubled the lead just after half time, slamming home from the edge of the area. The Gunners were coasting but second half sub Squillaci gave away the ball 30 yards from goal which resulted in a Boca goal then only two minutes later, his central defensive partner Djourou failed to properly cut out a through ball resulting in the equaliser.
Boos rang out around the Emirates after both goals and at full-time, and the sooner Arsene Wenger addresses the problem position of centre back, the happier the Arsenal faithful will be. Watch the goals below..

Djourou talks 2uu much but he doesnt do enough! He shd stop those silly interviews n work on his form.
Djourou openly supports Wenger so much because he wants to stay popular. He is one of the weak links and knows it.
mr wenger pls do sumtin abt our defency,its really killing,pls buy good defenders dt are reliable nd focused.
Wenger should think fast and address the defensive,he should splash the cash,because the likes of squillachi n djourou can not handle world class strikers like rooney,torres ,benezema,messi sanchez!!!! go in for cahill samba ,jagielka!!!!!!
Nothing changes … nor will it.
Only one of the 5 or 6 goalies and defenders today are good enough. That is good enough at defending – which means keeping the ball out of our net.
But Wenger just doesn’t understand he can buy any defender(s) he likes and they won’t gel as a good, tight defensive unit – as we used to have.
We need a defensive coach with the power to make changes and drill the defenders. It won’t happen because Wenger will not delegate power.
It’l b such a shame that Arsenal’s manger Arsene Wenger won’t be remembered as a great manager but rather a sturbborn one in 30 years..
This alone should show wenger a lesson, that the likes of djourou,squillachi,cannot help us win titles!!!! wenger pls buy players!!!

Too many good, promising footballers who have NOT been schooled at keeping the ball out of our net !! In the last 5 years we have not developed one good defender of our own … not one, including Clichy.

Arsenal drew Boca juniors because of poor defence. It’s high time sir, Arsene Wenger bought Cahill to replace clichy. We as fans are not happy because our opponent, like Man. Utd and Chelsea fans are mocking us here in Nigeria.
The problem with most Arsenal fans is failing to see the positives from that game.Jerkinson,Gervinho and Frimpong took their opportunities very well and gave us glimpses of our B team finally being able to hold fort when squad rotation kicks in.
Our team’s physical shape was not up to scratch and we must learn to excuse some heavy legs late in the game but am sure after some serious work next week,our players will be ready for the season.
why wenger? Why is it that Arsene Wenger is such a stubborn & stingy man, he always goes for cheap players who cannot add steel to d team, but always wants to sell his own players at a very exhorbitant price. It is high time he buys a matured & versatile centre halves who can add to the depth of our ever porous defence, so we fans can hope 4 trophies come next season. Gunner till eternity.

I quite agree with you there. Today’s game showed that the 2nd team can’t really do much going forward. Although we need one centre back,which wenger admits he’ll buy,the likes of squillaci and djourou must get their acts together. Lets not forget that if one CB comes,the two of them would only play 2nd fiddle. Jerkinson,gervinho,frimpong did well and I will like to see bartley given a chance. Nasri cannot play fab’s position!
