Wenger: “He is a top class goalkeeper”

Well Arsenal fans, it doesn’t seem like Arsene Wenger is ready to give up on the hopeless Lukasz Flapianski any time soon, judging by his latest comments.

Following another horror show by the Polish ‘stopper’ on Sunday during Arsenal’s 3-2 defeat to Wigan, that was not only embarrassing but ended our title challenge, Arsene has now come out to back his man and state that Flapianski is a ‘top-class’ keeper.

“He is a top-class goalkeeper. I repeat that many times and you will see that one day, I am right.”

Yes Arsene, ‘one day’ you may be right, i doubt it, but perhaps one day in the future he will be a top-class keeper but we needed NOW on Sunday, and he is certainly not a top-class goalkeeper right now.

Perhaps Wenger needs to distinguish the difference between being a great player, and being a great player one day.

The Arsenal manager does confess he worried that Fabianski would be mentally damaged after his errors in the champions league game against Porto.

“I think it would have had long-term consequences for Lukasz if we had gone out against Porto,” Wenger said. “Mental consequences, because he is a conscientious guy, very intelligent but, as well, sensitive.”

Wenger was also asked whether he felt Fabianski was too sensitive for the Premier League.

“No,” the manager replied. “You can turn sensitivity to an advantage because he can feel and see things that others don’t see but, as well, when you have guilt, it can be a disadvantage confidence-wise.”

I’m sure Fabianski is a very nice bloke, no doubt he shows all his skills in training and is a hard worker but at the end of the day, when it matters most, out on the football field, he has not produced the goods. He is clearly not up to it yet and his mistakes have cost Arsenal a shot at winning the premier league title. End of.

Either ship him out on loan for a year to build his confidence up, or sell him on and bring in a  new No1. Then offer Almunia his old No2 slot back, if he doesn’t like it…sell him as well and bring in another keeper as cover. I’m fed up of not having a reliable goalkeeper, and like i have said a hundred times…you don’t win anything without one.

Should Arsenal give Fabianski more time? Or bring in at least one more goalkeeper? Please leave your views below….
