Liverpool beat Burnley 4-0 to keep their slim hopes of finishing fourth alive, while the result confirmed Burnley’s relegation from the premier league. Liverpool Captain Steven Gerrard proved to be the match winner scoring the opening two goals, before Maxi Rodriguez and a late Ryan Babel effort completed the scoring.

Alberto Aquilani started to show signs of the form that convinced Rafa Benitez to pay nearly £20m for him, as he set up three of Liverpool’s goals. The win leaves The Red’s two points behind Spurs, who have a game in hand. So Liverpool could only snatch fourth if neither City, Spurs or Villa amass more than 68 points.

Burnley are now officially relegated to the championship after a horrendous run since new manager Brian Laws took charge in January after Owen Coyle departed for Bolton.
