Arsenal and Liverpool are favourites to sign Chelsea’s Yossi Benayoun on transfer deadline day, but sources say don’t rule out Tottenham.
Benayoun rejected a move to French champions Lille yesterday as he’s keen to remain in the premiership, and he isn’t short of offers.
Arsenal enquired about his availability on Monday as they seek some creativity after the departures of Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas, and Benayoun has plenty of premiership experience to offer. However, he is far from the marquee signing fans would hope for as a replacement for two of their best players and at 29 years-old, has very little sell on value.
Liverpool are also in the running for their former player and an offer of around £5m has been mooted, as has a potential player + cash offer involving Chelsea target Raul Merieles, but that was quickly rejected by Liverpool.
However, Sky Sports suggest that Tottenham could yet make a late move for the Israeli international.
