REPORTS: Gunners Failed With £35m Deadline Day Bid

By on September 1, 2011

Arsenal saw a club record £35m bid for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mario Gotze turned down on deadline day, according to reports.

Several media outlets claim Arsenal tabled the huge offer for the German wonderkid on Wednesday morning, but it was flatly rejected by Dortmund. The German outfit are relying on the gifted winger this coming season especially after the club sold Nuri Sahin to Real Madrid earlier on this summer.

Manchester United and Real Madrid have registered their interest with the German champs this summer with Europe’s elite all keen on the 19-year old.

Gotze already boasts 7 international caps to his name and has been tipped for a bright future for club and country. Despite his age the promising playmaker already has a Bundesliga medal to his name.

Arsenal turned their attention to Everton’s Mikel Arteta and Chelsea’s Yossi Benayoun, with both joining the club before the close of the window at 11pm last night.

Wenger stayed too late b4 making concrate bid and dat was why we missed out and its as a result of his stubborness thinking he will b able 2 keep either of cesc or nasri or even both. Another trophyless season and top 4 finish not sure.

You would be on here moaning about why we bought another kid and didn’t buy experience if we got him. Let Wenger get on with it

Seriously some Gunners fans can’t be pleased. Wenger signed some really great players that will fit in perfectly with the soccer we play.
It seems some ppl are destined to be unhappy. If we signed Messi last night right before close u wud still be unhappy.
    Get a life.

Well said. It amazes me how all summer people moan about us not making any signings and when AW comes up with some incredible shrewd buys of proven internationals, they’re still not happy. I fear they will be wearing man city shirts i their armchairs next year…………..they deserve each other.

Ettienne ONLY idiotic Americans call football “soccer”. Sorry mate, the rest of the world, the entire world, call it football because tht is what it is.

I agree, the players we signed are great.

So called Arsenal fans really make me wonder. I bet you if we signed Gotze half the people would then whine about paying 35mil for another kid and blame arsene for not bringing experience.

      😀

I too bet none of them have ever seen Gotze play and that they’re judging him on their computer games too.

Gotze’s gonna be put off Arsenal when he hears the atmopshere (or lack) at the Emirates in the Champions League!!

Christ, Wenger can’t win with some fans can he ??… people have been screaming out for more physicality, height and most of all experience to mix with the promising youngsters we have in the squad. He does this and people are saying he left it too late and he isn’t buying the right kind of players or spending enough money..(If you think this, then go support the revolution in Manchester !!).. I think he has made 9 (yes 9 !!) very good signings in the window (10 if your count Rio from Jan) and we now have a good looking squad with a mix of youth, experience, quality and passion, the deadwood have been shipped out and it seems we have players who want to play for us !!…Time to get behind our team and give the support they need (Good fan support is like a 12th player !)….COME ON YOU GOONERS !!!

i dno what the problem is with some fans they are never happpy

am not suprised with us offering 35 million.
and hats of 2 wenger least he tryed.

i dont think its fair to offer 40 million even 35 looks a bit much for the 19 year old.

but i dont think he wanbted to leave aswel arteta was not are fist chose thats why we signed him so late butttttt i got a feeling he will do will for 1 or 2 season untilllllll we do bring in someone like gotez or hazard.

I don’t think Goetze or any of football’s brightest stars would be tempted to come to Arsenal after the 8-2 humiliation. We don’t just need really good players, we literally need divine intervention to get something out of this season. The deadline day bargain basement spree was too little too late.

They’re old and cheap, kinda experienced but definitely not proven winners. Benayoun? What was that all about? We’re bringing in Liverpool & Chelsea rejects now are we? Arteta was a good buy. The rest, I don’t know…

And that reported 35mil bid for Goetze, don’t believe it for a second mate. Pure bullshit.

Now after that 8-2 drubbing, every team is gonna feel they can have a good shot at us. They’re gonna come and press hard, deny us the space and time, with hard tackles. There’s no real secret. Arsenal is one dimensional. Deny the kids time and space to play their passing game and start messing with their heads, they’ll crumble easily.
