Barca tempt Arsenal with sensational swap deal

Barcelona are the latest in a long line of clubs to express their interest in Arsenal’s French international full back. With Wenger known to be a particular admirer of Bojan Krkic, the Catalan giants are said to be offering the young Spanish striker plus £16 million for Clichy in attempt to coax Arsenal into selling.

Guardiola will be looking at Clichy as a long term replacement for ageing star Eric Adibal as Maxwell hasn’t managed to prove himself at the Camp Nou. Wenger, however, will be hesitant in letting go of his first-choice left back, even with the prospect of such a highly-esteemed striker coming to the north London club and the talented, young English left back Kieran Gibbs ready to slot in where Clichy leaves off.

Bojan hasn’t had much opportunity this season, starting only 12 matches in all competitions after having seen the big-money arrival of Ibrahimovic, the unprecedented success of fellow youth-team forward Pedro and the predictably sensational form of Lionel Messi.

Whether Bojan is the type of forward Arsenal should be looking to is another question though. Obviously as added incentive in any deal the transfer will prove to be an attractive one, but quite where he would fit into a team with so many world class attacking options (Van Persie, Arshavin, Rosicky, Bendtner, Wallcott, Eduardo) would be an interesting predicament for the Gunners’ boss. As such, such a move could be the catalyst for a mass of transfer market dealings involving some of Arsenal’s top players.

Despite this, with Arsene Wenger famed particularly for the youth of his team and the faith he puts in them to perform week after week, Bojan will perhaps feel this is a move that is best for his career.

Do you feel this would be a good move for Arsenal? Would Bojan fit into the squad? Please leave comments below…

could we set up something to do with getting him and swapping AA + a few million instead, as he wants to go there anyway and bojan will do a better job then him anyway, or sel AA and GC for greater amount, so we can rebuild defence!!

I think we should go for Bojan but also keep Clichy. Why do we alway have to lose something good in order to get another thinsg. It is not sustainable. we need to keep what we have, even Eduardo and add to the squad. Otherwise it will be exactly the same thing next year.eg Gibbs will get injured then we wont have suitable replacement and use Silvestre. Come on.

I am sorry to say this but 16 million plus Bojan will never happen. Barca might do this swap deal but they will never give us 16 million on top it is just to much. I would like to see this deal go through because we have Gibbs and I think he can fill in for Clichy very well. But Clichy is just not worth that much. Bojan is a great player and just because he is not playing on Barca’s staring team does not mean he is not a very talented player that we could use on our team.
    Gunner’s for life!

I’d let clichy go but not with Bojan I’d take the money and bring in Cissokho from Lyon. Bojan looks to lightweight to make it over here and we have enough of that already.

Like so many others, you use the terms “world class” far too liberally. We have no world class attacking players. My definition of ‘world class’ is someone close to being hypothetically selected for a world squad of around 20 to 30 players. Henry was world class, so was vieira, and bergkamp. Teams with world class players win things, as we did, with those players. The fact that we have not replaced them with players that get anywhere near them, explains why we haven’t won anything for a few years now. You would not have swapped more than 2 players from wengers first double winning side with the best the Premier had to offer. Ditto the Invincibles team. Right now i would barely keep two players in our current side..Maybe Fab and clichy at most.

Come on Alan, i get your point but your trying to say Fabregas or a fit RVP aren’t world class?

I completely agree about the past Arsenal teams being filled with world class players compared to our current side, but the fact was we had a group of world class players together and thats why we won things. Now we just have a few world class players surrounded by average ones, but that doesn’t mean you can’t call Fabregas world class just because he’s made to play alongside Denilson.

Hi fab4…if you read my message to the end i do in fact say there are a couple of players i would keep, faced with the option of any replacement from Premier League. Fab and clichy are two, and if VP could prove more resilient over a season, he would be in contention.. But go back to my definition of “world class” and ask yourself whether Fab truly is when he would be a 4th choice midfielder in the Spain squad. Yes i’d sooner have him alongside Alonso or Essien, both players we were loosely linked with at various points… Clichy has to be one of the top 3 left backs in world, but VP is not quite proven as one of the worlds top 6 or so strikers. Next challenge is whether Fab and clichy can be retained… i think i’ve made my point without having to drill down into the detail. Fab is great, but he lacks the leadership presence of vieira and roy keane when it comes to eyeballing the best in tunnels. As for our guest writer talking about Eduardo, theo, bentdner and rosicky as world class options…get real!

Alan….I don’t think it’s as easy to just say there are only a handfull of world class players in each position. You can’t simply say ‘here is the best 11 in the world, nobody else is world class cos they don’t get in’. It’s too restrictive and open to interpretation.

Of course fabregas is world class, if im honest mate…you’re probably the only person on the planet who would say he isn’t. I think we will see that he is just as important as Xavi or Iniesta to Spain in the WC this year.

Leadership is not one of Fabregas’s strongest points, but could Keane or Vieira pass as well as Fab4? No, of course not. Do Xavi or Iniesta have the leadership qualities of Vieira or Keane? No, but you would still consider them world class, so why not fabregas?

Aresnal have to let clichy go, even as a big club arsenal needs to buy 11 world class player and sign one manager who is good both tactically and technically, otherwise we(Manu) will win 50 titles before you ends your tropyless season. may be you can keep 5 of your good playes (Fab, Song, Verm, Samri,, diaby) from the current squad for cover for the new players. sale the other players to spurs, villa and city. It’s a brotherly advice, dudes.

Hi Andenet… Bet you re not from Manchester! Fab 4, i dont think world class means getting in world 1st 11, but maybe a hypothetical world squad of around 30 or so players. Fab would be there or there abouts ,but as i ve said, probably on the edges of it, unlike henry and vieira at their best, who would be among first few names selected. Agree that s its unfair to expext every player to have leadership presence to match keane, vieira and terry, but i do feel that a strong central spine, from keeper , central defence, holding midfield and central striker is a key component of most successful sides, including wengers best two, chelsea s , fergie s manu and the best liverpool sides. We have been lacking that for better part of 5 years.. By the way Andernet, there s only 3 players from current manu squad that i’d consider world class, by my definition…rooney, vidic and evra..though giggs and scholes were right up there at their peak.

Alan…ok, that seems reasonable enough. I see where your coming from.
I also completely agree that Arsenal need to strengthen the spine of the team considerably.

I just want you to make you lough otherwise i believe it is the current Arsenal team that got bright future. had you had added two or three player during jan transfere this title would have been all yours.

I agree with you Andenet..sorry about the cheap shot about manchester.. i also think that if Inter had not knocked Chelsea out the Champs League a round earlier than us, you’d be ahead of them, and we’d be a lot closer. ironically, Mourinho, now on inter’s payroll, has probably won Chelsea the title. i am not in the “in wenger we trust” camp. He is greatest ever arsenal manager, but he has had some serious blind spots recently on the central spine, the keeper, central defenders, and an understimation of injury proneness. Big mistakes in letting both Flamini and diarra go, not reinvesting some of City ‘s cash from sales of Toure and Adebayor. We deserve a keeper that is ranked in top 5 in country. I wish, for our sakes, that Fabregas and VP held a gun to his head on these points, backed by a genuine threat to leave

    Bojan for Arshavin!!!!!

    April 28, 2010 at 8:48 pm

I think we need allot of players.

They are all technically good players but the one thing they all lack is HEART… they cannot dig in when it gets hard.

They crumble under pressure and that’s the point when we are good they show they have ability but its when we are not playing well they crumble.

I think we need to get rid off.

Rosicky, arshavin, diaby, nasri, denilson, bendtner.

AND THE BIGGEST PROBLEM , flappyhandski, and almunia!!!!

Replace these with world class players.

We need a new goally to settle the defence.

We need a top class defender, a top class striker, top class replacement for fabregas.

The team we have now will never win anything because they are bottlers!!!
