Redknapp Reveals Record Bid Rejected On Deadline Day

By on September 1, 2011

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has revealed the club rejected a record £40million bid for Luka Modric from Chelsea.

Chelsea were desperate to land the Croatian international and launched a sensational £40million bid on the eve of the transfer window deadline, which would easily have been a record transfer fee received for the club.

However, Daniel Levy was defiant over Modric and insisted the playmaker would remain at White Hart Lane this summer, much to the delight of Redknapp:

“The chairman stood firm over Luka,” he told Sky Sports News. “I think £40million was apparently offered. Whether that is true or not, it is what I heard.

“It is a big offer to turn down, that’s for sure. I am delighted the little man is still here and hopefully he will have a great season for us.”

Listen, if we sell him for 40 million us fans are not going to see it so why sell.

Ronaldo left United for 80 million
    Fabregas left for 30 million
    Nasri left for 23 million

None of it was invested back in the team with equal quality.

If Modric would have left we wouldnt of found anyone better to replace him with, ok so we would of got 4 players like Diarra, Cahill, Leandro and Pjanic but we can only field 11 players in a match and our starting 11 would have been weaker.

The only team who used big money they recieved was Liverpools 50mill on Torres and even then people say they wasted it on Carroll

well maybe now when a chairman says a player is not for sale they will get the message!!. And he would of helped the misfirering torres to find the back of the net so you need to add another £50mill on top of the £40mill,you would of offord to see modrics worth ?as it’s looking like you’ve wasted £50 mill?
