Chelsea have signed a deal with Athletico Madrid that gives them first refusal to sign Sergio Aguero this summer, if recent reports are to be believed.

It is no secret that Chelsea are long-term admirers of Aguero and it’s understood that they reached the agreement back in January, and will now make their move once the transfer window re-opens this summer.

The Argentine striker has attracted interest from all over Europe with his eye-catching performances for Athletico, but it seems that Chelsea have stolen a march on their rivals. Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti is keen to bring the skillful attacker to Stamford Bridge and Russian owner Roman Abromovich has promised a healthy transfer budget this summer after being impressed with Ancelotti’s performance this year, as he closes in on a historic double in his first season.

Aguero’s asking price of over £35 million shouldn’t be a stumbling block, with personal terms seen as a formality. The fee would represent a tidy profit for Athletico, who paid Independiente £16m in 2006 for Aguero’s services.

Aguero himself fuelled rumours he was keen to move to the premier league and Chelsea in particular, after these recent comments in the press.

“Chelsea are a great club. They have become one of the most feared in Europe over recent years.

“I look at players like Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard and they have been, and still are, the best players in their positions in the world.

“I could really learn from players like that, there is no doubt.”

“London would be a really amazing city to live in as well, myself and my wife could be really happy there.

“Carlos Tevez is doing really well at Manchester City but, for me, it is about joining a club who are ready to challenge for honours. City are not ready yet.”

What do Chelsea fans make of this news? Would you welcome Aguero to Stamford Bridge or would you prefer a different type of player?
