Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed he has ‘definite transfers targets’ and would like to get his business done before the World Cup begins. Arsenal have been linked with a whole host of players in recent weeks but Wenger claimed all transfer talk was wide of the mark.

However he has now admitted he has identified the players he wants and would like to get them on board quickly:

“I have definite transfer targets and I have been talking to people but I will not tell you to who,” he told the Arsenal Matchday Programme.

He went on: “I believe the earlier you settle your team the better it is and the less anxiety you have.”

Wenger will not be buying a player solely on his performance at the World Cup however “unless there is an exception there that nobody knew before”, as he feels prices are inflated and any one player can have a great three weeks, but performing consistently is another thing.

“Also post-World Cup the prices are always artificial.”

“Overall I feel it is very dangerous to buy on [the strength of] the tournament because sometimes there are players who are fresh and have not played the whole season. Everyone can have three weeks of glory as a football player. Ten years is a bit different.”

Arsene seems to be making all the right noises, but i think most Arsenal fans will agree we have heard this before. I recall him saying in December how he had identified his targets and wanted to get any deals completed quickly during the January window, and Arsenal fans were left waiting right up to the last minute of deadline day, with only Sol Campbell to show for it. Actions Mr Wenger, speak louder than words.

Do Arsenal fans think Arsene Wenger will buy the players they need this summer to end their trophy drought? Please leave your comments below…

I’ll believe it when the players have been paraded in the ES.Till then I will wait and see. Last season he was talking about super signings and we got Vermalen.

i think he has spoken to some free agents.

I’m guessing Chamakh, Metzelder and Joe Cole.

Hopefully he’s negotiating for a couple more.

You’ve got a short memory then, he’s said before he has money, many times, and not spent it.

No shame at all. Its only people get frustrated at his (Arsene) philosophy. The tapping of matured players he notured etc, hampered his plans. He just want to satisfy the fans/people. I think just few additions to cover for injury probs will secure him trophies next term.

If wenger doesnt bring in new players in summer, then arsenal can forget about winning any silverware next season. He needs to bolster the squad in each department; he needs a quality goalkeeper (Sebastian Frey/ Rene Adler/ Hart), a defender( Hangeland, Micah Richards, Subotic), defensive midfielder ( Yaya Toure/ Diarra/ Veloso), a strier in addition to Chamakh ( Santa Cruz/Bent/Hugo Rodallega). What the squad has been lacking for the past 5 years is a blend of young and experienced players.

Simple Signing for wenger to garentee silverware next season and for years to come.

    Goalkeeper: Joe Hart
Young, Britsh quailty goalkeeper and is destined to be england’s no1. He’s the main reason why birmingham have done so well this season. Market value £8million.

    Centre Back: Steven Gohouri
Currently applyin his trade at wigan. at the age of 28 he the much needed experience that arsenla crave. He’s strong good in the air and have unbelievable pace. His contracts runs out at the end of the season which undoubtively please wenger :P. Market value £Free

    Centre Back: Phil Jones
Blackburn’s young starlet, plays football beyond his years. a technicial yet physical player whos very composed on the ball and his readin of the game is as good as any top defender in the league. already bein prasied by wenger alan hansen and of course his own manager for his mature performance against the likes chelsea and man utd. A Loan back deal would probly be the best idea so that he can get more experience. Market value £4million.

Right Back: Geogrey Van Der Wiel
A Atheltic attacking full back courtesy of ajax’s amazing youth academy. Hes a great defender and even better gettin forward join in with attackes , i think this would make for health compition for sagna. Check him out on youtube £8million.

    Attacking Midfielder: Eden Hazard
Only 19 years of age and the likes on zidane have tipped the young belgian to be a star of the future. The good thing about him is that he only wants to join arsenal or real madrid. He’s got bags pace and skill which can unsettle the best of defenses which would benefit arsenal when playing cagey games. Market value £10million

    Centre Forward: Maroune Chamakh
The Player all arsenal fans have been waitin for after the departure of adebayor. A rangy technicial striker which creates uncertianties in unlike defenses unlike bendtner lol. Isure that hes already signed for arsenal which great news as it give us a different option when goin forward. Market value £Free

    Centre Forward: Connor Wickham
Another english wonderkid tipped for greatness in the future. the 17 year old is bein Compared with rooney for his early involvement with the first team. also because of this exceptional technicial ability and physical presents. Unlike rooney hes 6ft.3 and 14stone which is a handful for the biggest of defenders. Again with connor if wenger were to invest, i would recommend that they loan him out to a premier league team which he could gain experience (ie Bolton). Wenger should not miss out on him as he done rooney because look how good hes become now. Market value £5million.

    £35Million Well Spent 😀

sell: Fabianski, Senderos, Rosicky and Eduardo because they are a waste of time and space.

I think that wenger should start play walcott on the left hand side. i think he would have more joy, cuttin inside and shooting. because all the defenders know what hes goin to do on the right hand side which is to sprint down the line and try and cross it…. do you agree?
