Wenger: Cahill Would Have Been A Good Signing

By on September 12, 2011

Arsenal Wenger admitted transfer target Gary Cahill would have been a good signing for Arsenal.

Wenger had a bid turned down for the Bolton defender and opted for Germany international Per Mertesacker instead, but believes the young Englishman would have done well for the Gunners.

“I don’t want to compare. Personally, I like Cahill as a player,” said Wenger.

“Both are good players. Mertesacker is a good player. He is more experienced. He has more international experience.

“Cahill is a young, promising English player. I suppose he would have done well for us.”

Tottenham also failed with a bid to sign Gary Cahill with Bolton unable to agree a fee for the 25-year old.

Not surprisingly there were no more “We missed out on Cahill” articles being trotted out on Sunday….funny that!

Im so glad we got the captain of Germany rather than a very ordinary English center half the game against UTD proved how lacking he is against world class players.
Wenger you bought the correct central defender, Owen was probably wishing he took that money after his terrible performance on sunday, were he was shown to be completly out of his depth, made to look inept and which is why he is now worth much less than Arsenals offer.
In two words Cahill is Overated and Overpriced anyone who saw that game knows it.
