Redknapp: We Should Have Sold Modric For £40m

By on September 12, 2011

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp admits he was keen to cash in on want away midfielder Luka Modric this summer.

The playmaker made it clear he wanted to leave for Chelsea this summer who had three bids rejected for the midfielder. The latest offer was thought to be worth £40million with some suggesting a package included an unnamed player.

Redknapp admits he didn’t want an unhappy player playing at his club, suggesting the decision to keep Modric was down to chairman Daniel Levy. Redknapp said:

“I’ve always been brought up with the belief that if someone didn’t want to play for your club then you move them on and bring someone in who does.

“And I was of that opinion in the end. If Luka doesn’t want to be here then take the £40million and move on.”

Harry should not talk like a fool. He wanted to keep Luka through thick en thin en succeeded in the end. Harry en His Levy refused to trade with Chelsea coz they wanted to purnish Modric. In other words in Spurs, players like Modric have got no right to express. I hope Rednap with full surport of Levy is going to with a trophy this season.

    I totally agree.
40m would be a fantastic price and would enable Spurs to find a more effective replacement.
We’ve seen already that 5m Parker had a more significant impact on the field than Modric.
The manager agreed to sell Modric at that price and he also didn’t know anything about Sandro’s contract extension.
The problem with Spurs at the moment is who is taking such decisions.
Who gives technical advises to Levy?
    Is there an invisible DoF?
    This is really a mystery.

What non-sense and a complete lack of understanding and basic mathematics’s you’ve published here. Mr Redknapp, for you information, the final bid wasn’t 40 million, not even close. Alex isn’t worth 10 million and Modric is worth far more than 30. We don’t need Alex, who’s hardly in the Bassong class let alone up there with King, Gallas or even Dawson. Lastly the final bid was made Tuesday 30/8, leaving no time to utilize those meagre funds to enhance the team, so from Levy’s perspective he was right, right and right again-shut up Harry-you’re an idiot and a know nothing idiot at that!

alex isn’t worth £10m? are you nuts? he would walk into the spurs team. £10m would be a bargain and it’s good for chelsea that they still have him. until january anyway when cahill arrives

The bad effect this will hv on Spurs is that players will be very cautious with extending their contracts ,n Modric will not be happy at the club under Levy that reneges on his promise. Lastly, Spurs will never see the best of Modric again.

This bid was nowhere near 40 million. 30 million plus Alex (or any other Chelsea reject such as Drogba, Kalou, etc) at best is worth 32 million. If Chelsea had made it 40 million cash and no installments then maybe Chelsea would have had a deal.

David why are u talking out of your backside mate, u call Drogba a reject. Correct me if im wrong but it was Rednapp and majority of all u poor Spurs fans crying out for drogba to join your club. He is much better than the strikers u have now a ex Arsenal, and Manchester City reject named Aderbayour Defoe and Pavelichenko who Reddnapp and Leavey are trying to get rid off. Drogba is much better than all 3 he is world class compare to them. Thank God we Chelsea kept hold of him. As for the Modrich deal well bad Luck Spurs and Mr Leavy because u will never get £40mil offer for him again. Chelsea dont need him as wew now have Meralies, Mcheran, and Piazon when he joins in Jan next year. We may even get Ganso who is better and younger.

modric wil nt b worth 40mil anymore, and i doubt if chelsea will even want him again cz they lucas piazon resuming in january, of couse he (lucas piazon) is already at cobham training with chelsea first team since last month and they stil have jos, essien to come back in january, meireless, romeau. thfc jst lost their bigest opotunity to do good business but they simply messd up. it’s a shame dat this time chelsea will b d ones to decide and not thfc.

D only opportunity thfc has to attain fame, selling a player for £40m, they messed it up. Anyway it’s a pity, cos they are never gonna be able 2 raise a player who is worth that amount of money
