Borussia Dortmund have warned Arsenal and Manchester United that their highly rated defender Neven Subotic is not for sale. Arsenal have been linked with a move for Subotic in the past with rumours resurfacing again in recent weeks as manager Arsene Wenger looks for defensive reinforcements, and reports in Germany this week have named Manchester United as the latest club to show an interest in Subotic.

However, when asked of United’s interest, Dortmund’s executive director Hans-Joachim Watzke insisted they have no plans to sell their prize asset.

“Selling Neven Subotic is a non-issue,” Joachim Watzke told Bild.

“If Manchester United is wanting to have him, they would need to sign over a property of two oil-fields to us.

“Or at least two big trucks full of packaged pound notes.

“We have no intention to sell the player, he is under contract.”

Whether these words will fend of clubs such as Arsenal and Manchester United remains to be seen, and a player with the reputation of being one of the best young defenders in world football will always attract interest. However Subotic himself has indicated he is happy at Dortmund and is not looking for a move away from the Bundesliga club.

“It is no secret I am enjoying being a player of Borussia Dortmund” said Subotic.

“I feel bloody good being a part of the squad and have the big ambition to be successful with the club in Europe, too.

“Therefore I am actually not thinking about a transfer away from Borussia Dortmund.”
