Wenger: Arsenal Struggling To Compete With Big-Boys

Arsene Wenger admits the gap between Arsenal and the Premiership big spenders is increasing and he can’t guarantee the clubs top stars will renew their contracts with the wages the Gunners can offer.

Samir Nasri departed this summer with speculation that the playmaker doubled his £75,000 a week salary at Man City, with Arsenal only able to offer up to £100,000p/w.

Following the lose of Nasri and former captain Cesc Fabregas this summer, Wenger has now warned that stars such as Van Persie, Vermaelen and Walcott, who all have less than 2 years left on their current contracts, might not accept the money Arsenal can offer compared to their rivals.

“We will try but we tried before with Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri,” said Wenger, according to The Guardian.

“The gap on that front has become bigger for us so I cannot today say that if we go to the maximum we are sure to sign a player – even if we do that we are not sure.

“We try to convince them. Our desire is there to do it and we are ready to sit down with them but after we see where we go.”
