[PLAYER RATINGS] Arsenal 2-1 Olympiakos: How The Gunners Got On…

By on September 29, 2011

Arsenal beat Olympiakos 2-1 at the Emirates last night but it was far from vintage Gunners on show, as the away side will feel unlucky to have walked away without at least a point after creating several chances throughout the game. Here are my player ratings:

Szczesny – 7 – Made a few important stops in the first half, could do very little for the goal.

Sagna – 7 – Left exposed on a few occasions but still put in his usual solid display

Song – 7.5 – A little shaky in the first half but was excellent in the second half showing composure to clear his lines.

Mertesacker – 6.5 – made some important blocks but i still worry about his lack of pace on the turn. Better attackers would have exploited it more.

Santos – 6.5 – Got forward and linked up well on occasion but still looks a little dodgy at the back. Typical Arsenal left back!

Rosicky – 6.5 – Strange game from Rosicky. At times he looked back to his best turning opponents and driving at the defence. Other times he would frustrate with misplaced passes.

Arteta – 6 – Quiet game from him. Did the simple things well but nothing spectacular. Got booked for silly foul after losing the ball.

Oxlade-Chamberlain – 8 – A star is born. Great confidence from the youngster to dribble into the box and slot home the opener on his Champions League debut. Our best player in the first half but was wrongly taken off early in the second. Looks to have more natural ability than Theo and should push him for a 1st team spot.

Frimpong – 6 – Ran his heart out but still jumps in to tackles without thinking sometimes and made a few loose passes.

Arshavin – 5 – Another poor display from the Russian. Tried to make things happen but nothing seems to work out for him at the minute.

Chamakh – 5 – Worked hard up front but created very little and his lay-offs and passes rarely found their targets.

Subs:

Ramsey – 7 – Worked tirelessly up and down the pitch and was unlucky not to be put through a couple of times. Looked to keep the ball better when he was on the pitch.

RVP – 5 – Hardly touched the ball really but got very little service as Arsenal were concentrating on defending their lead.

Gibbs – On too late for rating.

To my own opinion The German Per Mertesacker is improving on every game. Arteta is far much confident and gives excellent passes that always reaches the Target. Chamak should be given out for free to anyone willing becoz he is another big letdown for Arsenal. Arshavin Why do we even have hin in the first place. He turn out to be a spectator in the field looking and marvelling at what Arteta is doing rather than lending a hand. Please Arsene I think you have tolerated him enough you need to sell him to that team in his nat6ive that bear a Luyha name( Luyha is a tribe in western Kenya) masakhalakhala or which ever. Song played better than Koscieny and I think he realy worked soooo hard. Its High time that Szczesny starts dealing with set pieces rather than Just standing like a stunch between the sticks. You cant tell me he could not see that ball surely.
    Otherwise the team deed Great.

That’s funny Johnson. You want Szcz to pull a David James, come flying out for the cross and be left in no mans land. That my friend is a defensive mistake of not been aware and marking up and not the keeper to blame. If you meant superman save across the goal, good luck to any keeper saving that one.

I just wonder if Chamakh and Arshavin are down on confidence and therefore don’t try moves they would do naturally a year or 2 ago.

Win’s a win, bring on the spuds with our fully fit team.

These ratings are as much to do with reality as a Labour party conference speech. In other words, total fantasy.

Expected ratings but too high 4 Arsharvin and frimpong.Arsharvin was just scared of confidence showed by young inexperienced AOC.Gud work by defence and the mid.silly mistakes by the obvious Chamakh who was busy doin’ nothing.any team is welcomed 4 this manace in Arsenal on free transfer. Otherwise gud work but only 4 the young gunners.

That rating is not good enough; we all watch the game. Arteta, per martesacker and santos played very well, they deserve more rating.

Aoc got an 8? his defending was shocking, everything was down our right hand side due to his lack of pressing and tracking back. Also mertesacker was excellent. If your not watching properly, he stops passing lanes constantly and always picks good positioning, and his tackling is so clean. Has he made a foul since hes been here?

    some really strange ratings indeed.
Ramsey just a half a point lower than Song? Song hade a great game in defence and Ramsey had a poor one. Chamakh was awful Im afraid but got as much as Robin. I was disapointed with Frimpong abd thought Coqulin would do better.

Arsenal criticised for outplaying opponents but not finishing them off and again when getting results not playing well still there are the so called experts contradicting themselves and tell us a bad performance. Whereas the likes of Manu playing at home and conceding 3 goals applauded for getting the draw, it is none of the defenders error like Arsenal. Arsenal is the only English team who won while big spenders Man city and Chelsea got a foot balling lesson and Manu embarrassed at home by an average team.
