REPORTS: Chelsea Rival Arsenal For £5m English Starlet

By on September 29, 2011

Chelsea are set to rival Arsenal and Fulham for the signature of Brighton youngster Lewis Dunk, according to reports.

The 19-year-old defender has established himself in Gus Poyet’s side this season, and after an impressive start to the campaign the reports are suggesting that Andre Villas-Boas has targeted the promising defender as a possible target in January.

Dunk, a product of the Seagulls’ academy, has impressed for Poyet’s side after the Uruguayan was forced into playing the teenager due a host of injuries to key defenders, including Adam El- Abd and Tommy Elphick.

The old fashioned defender has a reputation as a tough, no-nonsense centre half and Despite his age, Dunk has showcased his ability to handle the physical aspect that the Championship demands.

Both Arsenal and Fulham have already sent scouts to watch the Seagulls ace, with Chelsea also monitoring the Brighton defender, and a bid of £5million will be enough to persuade Brighton to sell their teenage star.

To be honest a youngster like this makes more sense than Gary Cahill who would be dissatisfied with sharing the starting line-up once Vermaulen is fit again.

This kid would be godsent. You would’nt want to predict what his ambitions are and how he could shore up our defence unfussed by how or when he is used. Just pay the money this time Wenger. £5m for english CB? You must be mad not to.
