Dalglish: “Steven Gerrard Is More Important”

By  Published: 30th September 2011

Kenny Dalglish has hinted that skipper Steven Gerrard won’t be starting in thier Merseyside derby this weekend as he continues to regain match fitness.

The Reds travel to the Goodison in Saturday’s lunch time kick off, hoping to shrug of the form that has seen the side win just once in their last three games.  Despite the fierce rivalry, the Scot insists he will not risk their talisman, citing his long term fitness far outweighs Saturday’s encounter. He told Liverpool’s official website:

“No. The game is not the important thing – Steven Gerrard is more important.”

“As we’ve said before, we’ll manage Steven as well as we possibly can.”

Gerrard is still recovering after been sidelined since March with a groin injury.
