By Football Talk.

John Terry has given both Chelsea and England a major injury scare after he suffered a suspected broken foot in training today. Terry sustained a blow to his foot as Chelsea were training ahead of this weekends FA Cup Final against Portsmouth.

He has been sent to hospital to have scans on the injury but the early fears are the centre back has broken a metatarsal. Such an injury would take at least 6 weeks to heal, so Terry would not only be ruled out of the FA Cup Final, but England’s World Cup campaign as well.

A Chelsea statement confirmed the news:

“John Terry has today taken a knock in training and has gone to hospital for a precautionary scan on his right foot.

“He left Cobham walking freely in a protective boot, and we await the results which are expected on Thursday.”

This would be a devastating blow to Chelsea and England but also Terry himself, who has endured a tough 6 months despite lifting the premier league trophy on Sunday, the 29-year-old has had his private life smeared across the front pages of newspapers amid allegations about his private life. Terry was expected to be a central figure in England’s World Cup campaign, playing alongside Rio Ferdinand at the heart of the defense.

With this fresh injury concern, Capello will be sweating on the scan results as his other centre back options Ferdinand and King have had injury problems of their own in recent months.
