Arsenal legend: Wenger won’t buy a goalkeeper

Arsenal’s legendary goalkeeper David Seaman has tipped Arsene Wenger to stick with his current crop of stoppers despite growing pressure from fans to sign a new No1. Speaking to Sport.co.uk, Seaman claims Wenger has ‘got four top players at his disposal’ and describes Fabianski as being ‘a great talent’ and that Almunia will struggle to keep him out of the team.

“They’re still learning, especially Fabianski – people forget how young he is. He’s a great talent but he still needs to develop his all round game. It will come with age, but he’s certainly a talent.

“Then you look at Almunia who has all the experience…I think he’s going to have a problem in keeping Fabianski out. It’s great though to have competition for that one spot, Arsenal need it to be competitive as it will bring out the best in them.

“I think he’ll stay with the first choice pair he has at the moment. If you include Vito [Mannone] he’s got three with first team experience.

“Then you look at Wojciech Szczesny coming through and you have to say he’s a fascinating prospect. I think he may be a little young to throw straight into the first team as being in goal for Arsenal is very different to being in goal at Brentford. He is a great, great talent though – so Arsene’s got four top players at his disposal.

“I don’t know for sure what he’ll do but I accept it’s a tough situation when the fans are calling for change.”

Sorry David, i love you and everything, but ‘four top goalkeeper’? Seriously? We don’t have one. Your spot on about Szczesny though. Maybe David is just backing the current Arsenal boys in an attempt to get Arsene to bring him back as a goalkeeping coach. An idea i am all for, but not to coach Almunia and Fabianski, to coach a new No1.

There is a lot of talk on the web about fan protesting at the Emirates Cup if we haven’t signed a goalkeeper by that point. I’m not usually one for protests, but i think our goalkeeping situation has become so bad that it may be the only option left. Obviously all fans should support every single Arsenal player no matter what, but there comes a point when enough is enough. Arsenal wont win a trophy with their current keepers, simple.

I disagree with Seaman here and think Arsene will sign a new goalkeeper., there is no way he can stick with dumb and dumber. It’s plain to me he doesn’t trust Almunia and even Arsene at his stubborn best would admit Fabianski isn’t ready. I just hope he goes for a proven No1 and not another No3 with stupid hair.

Do you think Arsene will buy a keeper or stick with what he’s got? Please leave your comments below…

David, you have done well as a goalie for arsenal but your assessment of the present goalies is simply off the mark. Arsenal have failed this season because of the goal keeping blunders. They must go if arsenal is ever to challenge for honours next season, it is as simple as that.

I would like to see Mannone given a run, he is the only one I haven’t seen make any basic errors yet. Almunia and Fabianski are shot stoppers and that seems to be as far as their talent goes. Positional sensne and command of the six yard box seems to leave them dumbfounded.
