Van der Vaart – Spurs Faithful Persuaded Modric To Stay

By on November 9, 2011

Rafael van der Vaart has revealed he thinks Tottenham’s fans  were an important factor in persuading Luka Modric to remain at White Hart Lane.

The Dutch maestro believes the way the fans reacted to Modric played a major role in keeping the Croatian at White Hart Lane following Chelsea’s relentless pressure to sign him in the summer. He said:

“When a player gets an offer for a lot of money, maybe he thinks it is a better club but I think now Luka is happy because he saw how the fans reacted.

“I think any other club would have said to him, ‘Get away’ – but he came into a match while it was all going on and everyone in the stadium stood up and clapped him! It surprised me.

“At that moment I thought, ‘Wow, we can be happy to have fans like this.”

    Total crap!
Ive not even bothered reading the dross, the headline was enough!
Nothing to do with ‘Spurs faithful’ or anything else. He was not for sale – End of! He wasn’t going anywhere.

He could have got really stroppy (like Tevez) demanding a move and going awol, but what I think VdV means is that he was pleasantly surprised at the reception he got from the fans, and put it behind him and and got on with the job, where we are now sitting level on points with the chavs with a game in hand. Hopefully by the end of the season we will be above them too (3rd maybe) and he and the other players wont have any reason to want to move.
