Another Striker Rumour Involving Chelsea….

By  Published: 14th November 2011

With such a well documented problem at the back, why is there always something going on with Chelsea’s strikers?

It seems that every tabloid story, bar the ones involving captain John Terry’s personal problems, are revolved around the top end of the Blues’ squad, rather than the much maligned rearguard.

After all, boss Andre Villas Boas’ expansive style has led to a much more open style of football at Stamford Bridge, but it has also resulted in 15 goals being conceded in just 11 games, very un-Chelsea like.

So perhaps it’s time for AVB to be linked with moves for a rock-hard centre-back, or maybe a solid full-back to offer a challenge to the erratic Jose Bosingwa. Alas though, there is nothing of the sort. Instead the rumours coming out of the papers are that young forward Romelu Lukaku is being lined up by La Liga side Villarreal ahead of a possible loan move in January.

The teenager only moved to London in the summer from Anderlecht, but despite his doubtless potential, many believe it will be a few years before he’s considered for regular first-team action. So perhaps a short-term move will be a good idea for the 18 year-old Belgian, and then maybe Villas Boas can turn his attention to shoring up his backline.

Wait a minute; three of Chelsea’s main strikers, Didier Drogba, Nicolas Anelka and Fernando Torres, have just four goals in the Premiership between them this season? And now they may be loaning out an alternative to that misfiring strikeforce?

Oh dear, perhaps work does need to be done on the front-men. Well, at least your midfield is doing well Andre!
