Arsenal winger Theo Walcott has revealed that he and Tottenham Hotspur ace Gareth Bale used to call themselves the ‘underwear bandits’ during their time together at Southampton, according to the Mirror.

While the pair now play for opposite sides of the north London divide, the pacey attackers were once good friends and used to be room-mates when they were part of Southampton’s youth team and it seems they got up to some strange antics.

Walcott has been speaking to the Mirror newspaper and he’s revealed the pair used to put boxer shorts over their heads and burst into to other team mates rooms, earning themselves the nickname ‘the underwear bandits’. Walcott said:

“We’d call ourselves the underwear bandits.

‘I have no idea where it came from, but if you were in your room watching a film and someone burst in with their boxers on their head, you knew you were in trouble.

‘Sometimes it wasn’t even pillows – it was shoes and stuff like that. Luckily I was always quite quick, so I tended to get away with it.’ Walcott is quoted as telling the Mirror

Both Walcott and Bale have since gone on forge successful careers at two of the Premier League’s biggest clubs, so presumably their days of running around with boxer shorts on their heads are firmly behind them. I mean, could you imagine the look on Arsene Wenger’s face if he walked in to Mikel Arteta’s hotel room to find Theo standing there with a pair of Calvin Kleins on his head?! But it’s an interesting insight into what the youth team players get up to these days, if nothing else!
