Arsenal Bid Rejected As Wenger Looks To Strengthen Back-Line

Arsenal have had an £8.5m bid for Lorient defender Laurent Koscielny rejected, as it was dependent on a number of clauses and performance related payments, according to L’equipe. The Gunners made an initial offer of £4.5m offer last week which was rejected, and Lorient have knocked back the latest bid as they want £7m cash up front for the 24-year-old centre half.

Last week it was revealed that Arsene Wenger was prepared to let promising youngster Francis Copuelin join Lorient on loan for a season to sweeten the deal, but even this hasn’t forced the French side into a deal. Koscielny was signed only last year for £1.5m from Tours, but has been in impressive form this season which has seen him attract interest from all over Europe.

Arsenal boss Wenger is keen to bring in the centre half as he looks to reshuffle him back line ahead of next season, with William Gallas edging closer to the exit door as he has still to agree a contract extension, while Phillipe Senderos and Mikel Silvestre also seem destined to leave the Emirates. Perhaps more worryingly for Wenger is the news that Sol Campbell is seriously mulling over a move to Celtic despite a one-year contract on the table from the Gunners. That may mean Arsenal losing four centre backs from last years squad. Some serious business needs to be done in the transfer window Arsene!

Yeah i can’t say I’m too excited by this guy, but you just have to trust in the judgement of the manager. I can’t see him coming in as first choice, he will most likely be back-up replacement for silvestre/senderos/campbell. Hopefully a ‘proper’ centre back will also be signed.

you cant just judge the guy you havent seen him play. Remember thomas vermaelen no one knew nothing about him but look at him now one he is of the best defenders in the premier league.

I love people like ‘dan’ who are only interested in players they have heard of. Did you come out with such rubbish when we signed Vieira? Cesc? Sagna? Toure? Gilberto? Clichy? Vermaelen? Anelka?

    I could go on……

If Arsene thinks this guy is good enough then thats enough for me. I would like to see us sign two new CB’s but if this guy is the only one then fair enough. We have Djourou returning and if Sol signs on for another year then we are covered quite well.

Gallas/Silvestre/Campbell are history – they are either not good enough, too old or injury prone. We need two top quality experienced centre halves and a new goal keeper otherwise next season will be worse than the last season regardless of what happens in midfield!

For God sake Arsene stop penny pinching!! If you want him and think he’s good enough then stump the money and buy him for god’s sake, then turn your attention to a keeper.

Gallas/Silvestre/Senderos/Campbell are on their way out! If Laurent Koscielny is good enough, pay the 7m; Le boss we trust your judgement…we sure do need a CB its getting late!!!

I hate when spurs fans run over to a site that belongs to ARSENAL fans to yak off their mouth about matters not concerning them. Why don’t u enjoy ur best season ever and let us gooners worry abt our affairs… Anyway, if wenger thinks this guy will solve our CB problems, am all for it!! Go gooners!!!

Whoever goes sum1 will come in. Wenger is the best in turning nonsense into sumthing special so if he pays 7 it aint bad we paid nothing for fab but it took 6 years for him to get topps, if he goes no problem we only worry when god leaves us. he will follow the rest in two seasons he will b cuming from the bench even flamini is flabbergasted to see that he was a piece of crap, fab must ask himself y barca never seemed to see him as special behind messi, iniesta, pique he only le prof saw the gem inside him

What is it with Arsenal? – they have a huge transfer budget to spend this summer and as always they seem to be penny-pinching when it comes to negotiations for players. For God’s sake pay the money and let’s get some quality in the side instead of always going for the cheaper bargain-buy!
