Arsenal Ace Concerned Over Van Persie Injuries

Arsenal midfielder Alex Song has stressed the importance of keeping in-form Robin van Persie fit and scoring if the Gunners are to do well.

Goals win football games, so it is fairly obvious that when you take away a goalscorer, wins may begin to wane. In Arsenal’s case, subtracting Robin van Persie from the side would spell trouble, and unfortunately, with the Dutch striker, injuries have never been too far away.

His rich, fruitful goalscoring form for Arsene Wenger’s team, saw Arsenal force their way passed a determined Borussia Dortmund side on Wednesday night thanks to van Perise’s two nicely taken goals, and Alex Song, the midfielder who assisted van Persie’s first has expressed both his delight at his colleagues form as well as his hopes that the Arsenal captain avoids an injury. Song said:

“He’s in unbelievable form. He’s a very good player and a pleasure to play with and he shows how good he is in every game. He is very important and we hope he doesn’t get injured because when he does, it is very difficult for us. We just need to keep him in good form.”

Arsenal are far from a one man team as many would like to suggest – Song’s fantastic contribution to the first goal on Wednesday displays that fact quite clearly – but Van Persie has been hugely influential to the Arsenal side, and without him, they are a far weaker force in front of goal. His statistics do not lie; his two goals against Dortmund which sees Arsenal through to the knock-out stages of the Champions League were his 16th and 17th goals in all competitions this season.

His all round influence is obvious in every game he has played this season, and, as the captain, it is his job to motivate and inspire those around him with his performances, and in that respect, he could not be doing a better job. Song continued his analysis of the game, and told of his delight for a team performance:

“We attacked together, and we defended together. We showed really good character and when we got into the dressing room the boss said we just needed to keep going because if we played that way in the second half they would not be able to touch us.”
