Chelsea earned a hard fought 3-0 victory at St. James’ Park today in a game packed with incident and the scoreline flattering the away side. The controversial moment arrived early on when Ba was felled by Luiz, with the Chelsea man being the last defender and the Newcastle striker looked odds on to get on the end of a through ball and be one-on-one with Cech. Surely a red card would follow? Luckily for Chelsea Luiz was only shown a yellow much to the dismay of Newcastle and the home fans.
Chelsea then missed a penalty when the impressive Krul saved Lampards spot kick before Drogba opened the scoring with a fine header from a Mata cross. Newcastle pushed for the equaliser, had a shot cleared off the line and hit the bar twice before Kalou and Sturridge hit a late double to make the result look far more comfortable than it was.
