Arsenal & City Target “Would Rather Move To Man Utd”

Manchester United have maintained their position as favourites to sign highly rated Croatian Mateo Kovacic, despite interest from Man City and Arsenal.

Kovacic has attracted interest from all over Europe after some impressive displays for current club Dinamo Zagreb. The 17-year-old midfielder has played 21 times since making his debut in 2010 and managed 4 goals so far in his club career.

Sir Alex Ferguson is a known admirer and has had the player scouted on several occasions this season, with the Scot receiving positive reports from his staff.  Man City and Arsenal have also been linked with the £10m-rated Croatian U-21 international, who has been likened to compatriot Luka Modric.

Reports today have confirmed City’s interest and suggest that Blues officials have already held talks with the players representatives about a move to the Etihad Stadium. However, the reported ‘source’ went on to say that United remains Kovacic’s favoured destination when he does decide to move on:

“Manchester City is an exciting project and a wonderful club that interests Mateo. But at the moment, he would rather move to Manchester United when the right time comes to leave.

“He is only 17 so right now he needs to play and grow as a player.”

Of course the validity of this apparent ‘source’ is questionable, and it’s not known where this piece of transfer news originated from, so we’d suggest taking it with a pinch of salt for now.
