BREAKING NEWS: Chelsea Confirm Anelka Sale Agreed

Chelsea have today confirmed that terms have been agreed with Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua for the sale of Nicolas Anelka in the January transfer window. 

Anelka has struggled to hold down a first team place in Andre Villas-Boas’ side this season and had a transfer request accepted last week. Premier League clubs such as Liverpool and Tottenham were rumoured to be interested in signing the Frenchman, but ambitious Chinese outfit Shenhua have won the race.

A statement on Chelseafc.com read:

Chelsea Football Club and Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua have agreed terms for the permanent transfer of Nicolas Anelka in the January transfer window.

Since arriving from Bolton Wanderers in January 2008, the 32-year-old Frenchman has scored 59 goals in 185 games for Chelsea.
