Arsenal Transfer News: Gunners Line-Up £25m Striker Move?

By on December 13, 2011

Arsenal are lining up a move for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, according to reports in Spain today.

As an Arsenal fan I would love nothing more than to see the Frenchman in the famous Red & White but this move is highly unlikely to say the least.

The Spanish reports are claiming that Arsene Wenger has identified Benzema as a replacement for Robin van Persie, who funnily enough is being targeted by Madrid.

We all know RVP has only 18 months left on his contract, so it makes sense that Wenger will be drawing up a short list of potential replacements just in case the worst happens and van Persie leaves. But is Benzema a realistic target? I doubt it, and here’s why:

  • He is finally establishing himself as a first choice player at the Bernabeau and has scored 14 goals in 23 games this season.
  • He would cost in excess of £25m – too much for Arsenal.
  • If Benzema was available, clubs like Man City or Chelsea would outbid Arsenal.
  • His wages would be well over 100k per week, beyond our wage structure.
  • Would he leave Madrid for Arsenal?

The idea of a swap deal has also been mooted, which would make sense should van Persie want to leave for Madrid, but i still couldn’t see Arsenal being able to afford Benzema’s wages. This seems like another unlikely piece of transfer gossip to me.

I wish Arsene Wenger could afford and buy better and able players in the January Transfer

RvP will need to leave in a swap deal. Arsenal will get a good quid for him and the only reason the Gunners will pay for Benzema is with RvP transfer money.

RvP 29 old. Benzema 23 figure it out.

Benzema has another 6 years service before ageing

It may come down to Benzema’s demands for wages

Wenger knows RvP may walk away soon and the board will want to maximize payment while RvP is having a great season

I think Arsene Wenger should get a good striker to help RVP upfront. Can’t imagine RVP with injury, what becomes our fate?

Wenger must sign Podolski or Pato and jadson just in case of injury in our midfield. We want to win something!

      @Steven

Did you even read the article before commenting?! When did I say Arsenal were wanting to sell RVP?!!? I said IF van Persie doesn’t extend his contract and wants to leave, etc, etc.

I also say the reports from Spain are a load of b*llocks and the Benzema is highly unlikely to come to Arsenal.

Please read the article carefully before spouting off rubbish.

swapping rvp with benzema in a cash plus player deal will be very good choice…
As rvp has never been consistent performer.
    madrid want rvp at £40m…
so arsenal will be with benzema and £15m.. and with this money we can buy podolski..
    wht say?

we dont need to sell r.v.p to buy other players. we have all the money we need. just adjust your player cost policy and we get PATO and a defender. we have enough midfields

We should not think of selling players like Van Persie if we want to win something. we need to bring in others who are like him or more than him so that our squad look solid. We want mature and experienced players.
