Barcelona striker David Villa has suffered a broken leg today, ending any hopes Chelsea or Liverpool had in signing him this January.

Villa fractured his right tibia while playing for Barcelona against Al-Sadd at the World Club Championships this afternoon and is set to be out of action for several months.

Both Chelsea and Liverpool have been linked with a January move for the Spanish hitman in recent weeks, but the injury means he will certainly remain at the Camp Nou beyond the winter transfer window.

The severity of the fracture is not yet known but the injury makes Villa a major doubt for this summers Euro 2012 Championships. Watch the video below to see how Villa picked up the injury.
