Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that defender Kieran Gibbs has suffered another set back in his recovery from a hernia operation.

The left back has been on the sidelines since early October and Wenger had hoped the 22-year-old would return for tomorrow’s fixture with Aston Villa.

The Gunners are currently down to the bare bones at the back with several first team players out through injury, and the return of Gibbs was seen as a timely one.

However, the French boss has revealed that the England ace has suffered a set back and is not yet ready for first team action:

“Kieran Gibbs has unfortunately had a setback and he is not back yet,” Wenger told the club’s official website.

“It’s very disappointing because we had good hope that he would be back for tomorrow’s game, but he is not available.”

Arsenal have some positive news on the injury front, with midfielder Ryo Miyaichi and goalkeeper Luks Fabianski both set to return:

“Ryo is joining in normal training on Friday, so he is completely back from injury,” said Wenger.

“Fabianski has practised today (Tuesday) and should be available for next week.”
