3 Players Liverpool Should Sign To Become Title Contenders

By on December 30, 2011

Anfield Kop

Liverpool have been fairly disappointing this season. After more than £100 million spent on new players this year, the club is lying sixth in the league table, three points from the much needed fourth place. But although it doesn’t seem so, Liverpool are not that far from being title contenders.

Striker – Lukas Podolski

Although Liverpool spent around £60 million on strikers last January, the club is in dire need for new striking talent. The team is creating lots of chances, but have big problems converting them into goals. With the current number of goals scored, it is likely that Kenny and Comolli will be looking for a striker in January. Lukas Podolski is the ideal man for the job.

The German star is having the best year of his career, scoring 14 league goals for his club Köln this season. Although he would be relatively expensive, with the price of around £20 million, he would be a perfect solution to Liverpool’s striking problems.

Creative Midfielder – Gaston Ramirez

Liverpool are creating chances, but not enough of them. According to statistics, Liverpool are only sixth in the league by number of chances created. Charlie Adam has started well, but his recent performances have been abysmal.

Ramirez would offer Liverpool a lot more attacking options, and with Gerrard coming to fitness and Liverpool searching for a new defensive midfielder, he would be the final part of a deadly three-man midfield which would guarantee lots of goals.

Defensive Midfielder – Fernando Reges

With Lucas injured, Liverpool need a defensive midfielder. Spearing is a name that people might mention to replace Lucas, but is he really good enough just now to replace a world class talent like Leiva? Fernando is and would do a great job.

The Porto man is a real beast, and would easily fill the gap left behind due to Lucas’ injury. The problem is: are Kenny and Comolli ready to pay around £15 million for Fernando when Lucas will be fit for next season? They should buy him in my opinion, Liverpool were in need for a defensive midfielder before Lucas got injured; this signing would solve our long-term problem area and he could play alongside Lucas when he returns.

If Liverpool manage to pull off these three signings, which would be at a combined cost of around £50 million, they would become real title contenders. Imagine a midfield three of Gerrard, Ramirez and Fernando/Lucas with Suarez, Podolski and Bellamy/Downing in attack, goals would come easily.

Before attempting to bring any new players to Anfield, the Liverpool hierarchy should simply show the exit door to Dalglish.

Agree,KK should never have been taken on as manager! Benitez brought him back because he was a good ambassador for the club.So what happens then; Benitez is undermined!

Nothing to do with hindsite sunshine!I forecast immediately he was brought back that it would eventually backfire! It was a forgone conclusion! Dalglish should have been kept in the role he was brought back for and nothing further!

Muppet, Kenny is bringing a style of play back to the club and needs to be given time and funds. The team are playing better and a smile has been put back on the faces of the true fans.

No decent footballer would join Liverpool if it means playing week in week out with a donkey (Carroll) a couple of mules (Henderson & Downing) and some jackasses (Carragher & Lucas).

Why do you want rid of your saviour king kenny as of six months ago we were going nowhere but down. We can build from there and make Liverpool the team we once used to be so please let’s get behind him and give him the support he deserves COME ON THE REDS YOU WILL NEVER WALK ALONE.

Why do we need to buy a defensive midfielder, I see a loan being more realistic. The only two players Liverpool should consider is Edinson Cavani and Eden Hazard. Then maybe Lassana Diarra on loan.

There are some disgraceful comments on here from so called supporters. People should stop slagging and bad mouthing Kenny. The sacrifices that he has made for Liverpool over the years with Hillsborough and supporting the families and the great times he gave as a player and Manager. He built the last truly great Liverpool team that played some of the best football I have ever seen.

He is already starting to do it again, I thought the game against Newcastle showed glimpses of the plan coming together. He is getting the best out of players like Bellers and Maxi, Gerrard looked like a player of 5 years ago and someone who could get the best out of Carroll. We have a tight defence again.

Downing, Henderson and Adam have been good signings as far as I am concerned. Downing is unlucky not to be credited with a fair few assists and a few goals but for poor finishing, Henderson looks a top player for the future and Adam fits in like a hand in a glove with his passing and can score.

Enrique is just class, Johnson looks a better player now. Skrtl looks world class finally. Would anyone else got away with leaving Jamie C on the bench?

    Luis Suarez……brilliant.

I think we need another striker, but not sure who it should be? I would love us to buy a top young talent like Eden Hazard, but I think we would need to be fully encamped in the Champions League qualification spots. That would send a message.

Anyway, leave off Kenny as he is a true legend and will return us to glory. Some people don’t understand him as he is too clever for some. I can’t wait to see Liverpool up there with Citeh and Manure, fighting it out for the title and having mind game battles with Whisky nose. Oh and to think we are fifth currently equal on points with Chavski who apparently still have a chance of the title? We are 11 points off the top? If we had scored a goal a game extra in all of of our home draws, we would be top now by one point, so with Gerrard back and if we can push on, you just never know what can be achieved.

Believe people, believe. If you don’t believe then jog on and support another club.

What I would suggest is KK should try out foreign players as well I don’t understand his logic behind buying only english players, the way Liverpool are playing at the moment(not scoring)it will be difficult to qualify for CL,unless we get at least two top class attackers and please don’t tell me the club are again going to sign a couple of multimillion teenagers who look promisimg.

NEGRO is not a racist word. The United States Census Bureau announced that “Negro” would be included on the 2010 United States Census alongside “Black” and “African-American” – does that mean the US government promotes and condones racism?

The trouble here is the judgement has been made by 3 individuals who probably have never experienced a second of true racism in their lives. They are a joke and disgrace to the United Kingdom.

THE FA OF ENGLAND IS THE RACIST PARTY HERE, NOT LUIS SUAREZ!

It is incredible why people accuse Liverpool of condoning racism. We back Suarez not because we are condoning racism. We firmly believe Suarez did not say anything offensive, even if he did, he was provoked by Evra. FA has only the words of the two players and believed Evra’s word to be true and Suarez to be ‘unreliable’. What makes Evra such a reliable witness? He lied on several occasions about racial abuse and clearly he did in this case, of course being instigated by Alex Ferguson ( I’m just going to leave out the ‘sir’ because the way he manipulates the FA to get his way is disgraceful)
