The Dutchman cooly finished into the bottom corner off an Arshavin pass. While Van Persie failed to surpass Alan Shearers record of 36 goals in a calendar year, he did break a club record after going one better than Thierry Henry and became the first Gunner to reach 35 goals in a year.
