Manchester United and Tottenham are ready to try and hijack Chelsea’s bid to sign Bolton’s Gary Cahill, according to reports today.

Chelsea were expected to wrap-up the signing of Cahill this week after agreeing a £7m fee with Bolton. However, the deal has stalled over personal terms with Chelsea offering £70,000 a week while Cahill is asking for nearer £100,000.

Liverpool were thought to be considering entering the race earlier this week but now The Sun are reporting that Man Utd are also monitoring the situation. Sir Alex Ferguson has seen his defence decimated by injuries this term and the Scot is reported to be weighing up a late move for the England stopper.

However the Evening Standard have got a different take on things, suggesting Tottenham are also set to make a late move for Cahill. The North Londoners tried to snap up the 25-year-old in the summer but failed to agree a fee with Bolton but Harry Redknapp remains interested and is keen to add another centre back to his ranks.

Although it’s claimed that Spurs would only make their move if the Chelsea deals completely falls through, as they are un-willing to enter a bidding war with their London rivals.
