Liverpool made an ambitious attempt to take Arsenal legend Thierry Henry to Anfield, according to reports today.

Henry is on the verge of re-joining Arsenal on a short-term deal and is pencilled in to make his second debut during Monday’s FA Cup tie against Leeds. Insurance paperwork is holding up the move, but it needs to be completed by midday today for Henry to be eligible for Mondays game.

The Daily Express reports that Kenny Dalglish made an enquiry for the 34-year-old, looking to tempt the striker to Anfield on a similar short-term loan deal.

However, Henry turned down King Kenny’s advances as he had his heart set on a move back to the club he served for 8 years, becoming their all-time leading scorer in the process.

It was an ambitious move from Dalglsih and would have been a real coup had he managed to pull it off. But it was highly unlikely that Henry would choose Liverpool over Arsenal given his history with the Gunners.

It’s thought that Dalglish is on the look-out for a striker with Luis Suarez serving an 8-game ban and Andy Carroll struggling for form, but it seems the Merseysiders will have to look elsewhere with Henry all-but-certain to move back to North London.
