Chelsea's Alex

Queens Park Rangers have submitted a bid for Chelsea’s transfer listed defender Alex, according to Sky Sports News.

The 29-year-old Brazilian stopper has been forced to train with the reserves after having a transfer request accepted last month. Juventus were initially thought to be close to agreeing a deal to take Alex to Turin, but a transfer has failed to materialise and now it seems QPR have made their move.

Mark Hughes was appointed QPR’s new manager only yesterday but has already set his sights on improving the squad, with several targets identified.Premier League experience is thought to be of high importance to Hughes and Alex fits the bill perfectly.

The amount of the bid is not yet known, but it could be as little as £2m, which if successful would represent a good piece of business for Rangers. Owner Tony Fernandes revealed this morning that money was available for Hughes to improve the squad and both were keen to complete at least one signing before this weekend’s game against Newcastle.

Chelsea are expected to announce the signing of Bolton defender Gary Cahill within the next 24 hours, so it could be one-in one-out at Stamford Bridge.
