With the second round of World Cup matches complete we look at who the star performers were during the second games and give you the chance to vote for who you think produced the best performance.

Diego Forlan (Uruguay) – The team was criticised for its negativity against the French, but Forlan playing in a deeper role showed his class against South Africa. Everything good about Uruguay performance came through Forlan, who opened the scoring with a rocket then kept his nerve to slam home the decisive second from the spot. A dark horse for the Golden Boot.

Gonzalo Higuain (Argentina) – Higuain didn’t have his shooting boots on against Nigeria, but was in the right place at the right time against South Korea to bag his first International hat trick. Looks to be first choice in Argentina’s formidable attack, and could also be a contender for the Golden Boot if Argentina progress to the latter stages of the tournament.

Luis Fabiano (Brazil) – After a subdued performance in their win over North Korea, the Sevilla hitman came alive against the Ivory Coast with two goals. His first was a superb powerful strike, and the second he showed great control before firing home, even though he appeared to handle in the build up, also lead the line well.

Ryan Nelsen (New Zealand) – A colossal performance at the back by the Blackburn defender helped keep Italy at bay, and secured a historic point for the Kiwis.

Mark Paston (New Zealand) – Pulled off a couple of superb saves from Camoranesi and Montolivo, as well as proving a commanding presence in his penalty area.

Wesley Sneijder (Netherlands) – Again the main man for the Dutch despite another average performance, also scored the vital winner against Japan.

David Villa (Spain) – Looked sharp right from the off against Honduras, and took excellent finishes ensured Spain got back on track.

aside from forlan and ryan nelsen. The alternatives were poor choices. Keisuke Honda from Japan, Lione Messi of Argentina and Mesut Oezil are the three star performer by far. Always looking dangerous when they are in possesion
