Arsenal Transfer News: Lazio Linked With £6m Arshavin – Should We Sell?

Arsenal Star Andrey Arshavin

Morning Gooners. Another day and another transfer news story to bring you, this time the Mirror are running an exclusive saying Lazio are interested in signing Andrey Arshavin for £6m.

The report claims the Italians are ready to make their move and hope a reduced offer of £6m will be enough to persuade Arsenal in to selling the 30-year-old, who has only 18 months left on his current contract.

Like many Arsenal fans, i have grown frustrated at Arshavin’s lacklustre performances and would gladly see the Russian sold this month, but only if Arsene Wenger brought in a ready-made replacement.

Andrey has shown glimpses of quality in recent weeks, with a couple of nice assists for Van Persie against Fulham and Swansea, but he rarely looks interested and is visibly lacking in confidence.

I think it’s time for a change and a move might suit both the player and Arsenal. But Wenger would have to sign a replacement this month and i can’t see any deal being agreed for Arshavin before Wenger finds that replacement.

Thierry Henry will hopefully start on the left once he regains full match fitness but he’s only here for a month so a long term alternative to Gervinho is required.

If Arsenal decide to keep Arshavin, i think we should at least give him a chance to regain his form and the only way to do that is to play him in a central position behind Van Persie. Arshavin doesn’t like playing on the left and it clearly isn’t working. Ramsey isn’t creative enough to play in the advanced midfield role so let’s try Andrey in there and either play Henry or Chamberlain on the left, or preferably sign someone new.

What do Gooners think? Should Arshavin be sold? If so, who should be brought in to replace him?

arshavin is one of the worst signings arsenal have ever made.

I would take £6.00 for him in luncheon vouchers

I like arshavin alot, he is my favourate player at arsenal not just becuase he is a world class player and one of the best players at the club for the first three years of his career but also for other perks such as he looks like me and had arsenal in his name etc. I would only like the player sold if we get profit on the player and that doe snot look like it will happen as at 15M if we sold him now at that price we would have lost 9m so i wouldf like him to be converted back to a attacker with van perise on the top left or supportive or even creative midfielder like he was the first three seasons and let him regain his form.

Firstly, Arshavin has only had one good (mediocre) season which was the second half of the season he joined.

Secondly, even then he has never fitted into the team and played “the arsenal way” or put much effort in for that matter (not physically fit enough).

Thirdly, He never wanted to come to Arsenal, he wanted to go to Barcelona, said it publicly, then when Barca looked at him and said hell no, the Arsenal board showed their tiny balls and took advantage of the situation.

Fourthly, Having players with a name sounding like your club is a shite strategy for winning football matches and getting ones that look like your ugliest fans is even worse.

Lastly, We will never get £15m for him, £8m at the most (and that is pushing it) But considering the only contribution he makes is slowing the development of Chamberlain or blocking a signing loosing his £5-6m/year wage bill defiantly isnt a bad thing.

I agree try him in Ramsey’s position and drop Ramsey back for now in Arteta’s position or on the bench.

He won’t be replaced now in Jan so I’d prefer we keep him than be short of experience and class in the squad.

Ramsey is a class player who is getting better and better with each game.

The bigger question here is why would Wenger ever start Arshavin.

It is a waste of a position as he constantly looses the ball and rarely chases back.

Sell him now with Walcott who although better than Arshavin has constanly failed to deliver.

Chamberlain looks like a much better bet.

Sorry Theo your time is up!!!

It won’t happen. Arsene knows only one formation and he won’t change it to accomodate star players nor to combat this or that opposition !!

I am not quite sure if should sell. He has a lot of assist this year. Against Swansea he was the second last man for both goals. I actually think he is playing in the wrong position for Arsenal. Both his assist against Swansea came from the midfield and I think Arsenal should give a chance in that role. Something like Bergkamp did for so many years.

Of course we should sell (or even lock him up somewhere) then Arsene can’t select him to play wide left !!!
