Injury News: Update on Henry, Arteta, Vermaelen & Sagna

Arsenal news

Arsenal welcome champions Manchester United to the Emirates on Sunday, here is the latest injury news ahead of the game.

After months of suffering, things were finally beginning to look positive on the injury front for Arsenal yesterday. Three important first team player in Jack Wilshere, Bacary Sagna and Thomas Vermaelen were thought to be closing in on returns to fitness.

However, today the Metro report that Thierry Henry has picked up a calf strain in training and is now a doubt for the United clash, while the game is likely to come to soon for Sagna, who is rated as 50:50 at best to make the tie.

I had hoped Thierry would start the game against United but that seems unlikely now even if scan results show only a tight muscle. Arsene Wenger is unlikely to risk further damage by handing Henry his first start since returning to the club, so it looks like Andrey Arshavin will continue on the left this weekend.

Sagna was always going to be a long-shot for me. I had only heard Twitter rumours that he was even in contention for this weekend, and we all know how Arsenal are with injuries, usually a player comes back 4 weeks later than expected than ahead of schedule, so it’s no surprise if the Frenchman doesn’t make it.

There are conflicting reports on the fitness of Mikel Arteta and Thomas Vermaelen. The Metro suggest the duo are still classed as doubtful, while the Evening Standard claim both have been passed fit to play. Lets hope the Evening Standard prove to be correct!

A team that contains Arteta, Vermaelen, Henry and Sagna is a damn-sight stronger than one that consists of Benayoun, Miquel, Arshavin and Djourou. So lets keep everything crossed that at least two of the injury doubts are in the starting line-up on Sunday.

My guess is that Arteta and Vermaelen will play, Henry will be on the bench and Sagna will miss out. Which wouldn’t be ideal but hardly a disaster either. Having all four miss out….now that would be a disaster.

yeah it would be good if vermaelen came back it because laurent koscielny is the only defender who is actually defending. and i hope kieran gibbs is sold or loaned out because he is just rubbish

Is it possible to start either Rosicky or chamberlain on the left instead of Arshavin?

Not only possible i’d say it’s as obvious as the nose on my face and I have a big nose. Chamberlain is better than Walcott and Arshavin. Mind you Swansea (and most of the other teams in the league) have two wingers better than both of them so it’s not a great accolade. Rosicky is much better in a contral role but i’d still rather see him that Theo or Andrei.

The spirit in the camp must be high…with the impending cameo of the trio, the aroma of good things is now very certain….don’t we have to repay all who have frustrated us this season..like man utd??..of course by squarely machetting them!!!”…up Gunners.”

In my experience the Metro is totally unreliable in terms of rumours of any kind.I would place more credence in the Standard.

Actually,i dont see Arsenal defeating United on Sunday,i just hope a draw will certainly look nice, injuries has ravaged the team and this is not the best time to play United.

Its un4tun8 dat wenger’d insist on keep’n d lyks of gibbs, chamakh, squillaci, diaby n arshavin, who over d yrs av offered very little or nofin 2 our course!

I think is time for wenger to go, bicos am nt seeing arsenal coming victorious against man u on Sunday, his refusal to sell arshavin, chamakh, squillaci, gibbs, derby, almunia, is going to course us morow harm than good, we thick we hv player in them? No way all we hv r bunches of trash players, players hu can nt with stand pressure from their opponents, players dt can’t make good runs and good possible position, players dt can’t creat space for is partner to pass the ball. Wenger still believe in them, iam sick n tired of those crepy crabs arsen wenger is keeping as players sell them and make new buys now dt we still hv 11 days to go, or get ur bags nd bagages ready Mr wenger bicos we r nt gonna support u any more, we still believe in arsenal bt nt in u! Mr wenger, u should learn hw to lisentn to great Arsenal fans , we get nothing from the club only the winnings and trophies dt is what we need. U cn take good example from morinho in realmadrid or gadiola of barcalonia. We r tired of ur excuses n ur bn stubborn!

i think wenger needs to buy guality players that can take arsenal back to glory days or leave the team for the next manager who can do something meaningful tired of excuses for dismal performence
