Liverpool have agreed a deal with Sporting Lisbon to sign youngster João Carlos Teixeira, according to The Guardian.

The report states that the Reds have secured the talented 19-year-old for a fee close to £1m after Kenny Dalglish was alerted to his talents when he scored against a Liverpool youth team during a NextGen tournament at Anfield last summer.

João Carlos is one of the latest products of an impressive Sporting academy that has produced the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani and Luis Figo. So no pressure João Carlos!

The young playmaker has a similar playing style to compatriot Deco, who played for Barcelona and Chelsea during his illustrious career, but has yet to make a first team appearance for Lisbon.

The Guardian claim Sporting were forced to accept Liverpool’s offer due to their difficult financial position. The deal continues Kenny Dalglish and Damien Comolli vision of signing young stars and investing in the future of the club.
