Arsenal Transfer News: £8m Arshavin Deal Agreed?

Arsenal news

On the day when one Arsenal flop declared his intention to remain with the club, another could be heading for the exit door this summer.

The Daily Star are reporting that Zenit St Petersburg have agreed an £8m deal with the Gunners for Andrey Arshavin, which will see the Russian move back to his homeland in the summer.

The Star claims that Arsenal are prepared to cut their loses with Arshavin and sell him back to Zenit, after paying them £15m for the Russian captain three years ago.

After a promising start to life in North London, Arshavin has been hugely disappointing over the last 18 months and it honestly looks like he’s not interested anymore. A move is probably best for both club and player, and with Arshavin having only 12 months left on his contract come the summer, £8m would represent a decent return for an out-of-form 30-year-old.

The question must be asked though, if this report is accurate and a deal has already been agreed for the summer, can we rely on Arshavin to put in a good shift over the next few months?

If he knows he’s off at the end of the season his mind may be elsewhere and i think if he’s going to leave, the move should happen now so we can get a replacement in early. January is never an easy time to buy but Arsenal need fresh blood now and with Arshavin not performing, we should try and push through the deal this month.

Would be quite happy to shift our 30+ foreigners to free up some spaces henry almunia squillaci arshavin rosicky benayoun. those 6 will do for starters then there is the others that are a waste of space chamakh park diaby fabianski djourou. that is 11 players that i see should leave the club now or this summer. then there is the ones that are already out on loan that need to go mannone bendtner denilson vela botelho wellington hajrovic galindo. that brings the total to 19. then there is hoyte murphy eastmond neita boateng monteiro meade brislen-hall henderson shea mcdermott. there you go 30 players that are not going to make any impression if they stay at the club

almunia, squillaci, arshavin, rosicky, bendtner, chamakh, park, diaby, fabianski, djourou, denilson are all deadwood, even if we raised 40mil from these sales and replaced them with 2 players at 20mil each they would do a better job, henry in goal would do a better job than almunia, why on hell is he still at our club god knows!!

Wenger is a legend. You lot should cheer the hell up! Looks like he’s lining up some quality in the summer and he’s pulling the club through a difficult time, which will end with the club having a great stadium and having enough money to create world beating teams for years to come….and he’s doing it on a shoe-string budget! Who in the world could replace him? No one! …all us fans have to do to achieve this is: keep going to the games….
    In wenger I trust…

bad apple, I dnt deny, wenger z a legend n he should his status mates in retirement.. Nt many can do what he doez bt rijkaad did it with barca and won the champions league while he was at it (at our expense). Rememba he was sacked after one poor season where he finshd 3rd in la liga and now guadiola is enjoying his success (and even though barca were broke he still beat arsene to ronaldinho back in 2002. lets face it wenger has done much but his time at the helm is up. even jorgen klopp does a good job with a tight budget. its fans like u that give the board tha wil to exploit us. If we all united and boycotd a couple of matches we may get them to stop riping us of beause no fans means no money. Solidarity forever.
