Chelsea Transfer News: Azpilicueta Responds To Blues Rumours

It’s been another relatively quite day on the transfer gossip front but one story that did stand out concerns Chelsea and a possible move for Marseiller defender Cesar Azpilicueta.

The Mirror is reporting that the 22-year-old right-back has responded to speculation linking him with a move to Chelsea, by declaring he would be open to a move should the Blues come calling.

Earlier this month, Goal.com were among several media outlets to link Andre Villas-Boas with a move for the Spanish defender, claiming the Chelsea boss was on the look-out for a replacement for Jose Bosingwa.

The Mirror have now followed that up by quoting Azpilicueta as saying that while he’s happy at Marseille and has heard nothing official from Chelsea, he would consider the move should it be offered to him.

“For me, these are just rumours. There has been no contact, and I am still bound to OM until 2014,” the right-back told L’Equipe.

“Now, if the leaders of Chelsea want me, they should first discuss that with OM. If a proposal comes, I will think about it.

“It is more difficult to start in the national team when you do not play at a great club. You have to be at Real Madrid or Barcelona.

“But I feel good today at OM,” the youngster added.

Not sure about this one. Seems to me that Azpilicueta is sounding out Real Madrid or Barcelona more than he is Chelsea. He would be a decent addition to the Stamford Bridge squad though, if Villas-Boas could bring him in.

Jose Bosingwa has failed to impress at right back and while Ivanovic certainly seems to more solid choice in that position, a long-term solution needs to be found. I’m just not convinced Azpilicueta will prove to be the answer.

There is nothing wrong with Ivanovich playing RB in fact I think he is very decent playing in that role offering a far better defencive option than Bosingwa and his runs forward invariably lead to decent crosses or another attacking option when he cuts in. In fact I think he is a better RB than he is a central defender although that is his prefered position. Young Nathanial Chilobah should be Ivanovich’s under study, Bosingwa sold and the club bring in a top quality winger rather than a RB.

    Chalobah isnt the RB understudy

    Hutchinson is

Hutchinson, Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Luiz, Cole, Bertrand

Now either a RB to leave Ivanovic at CB or a CB to push Ivanovic to RB should be signed

Azpilicueta or Inkoom would be my suggestion

    Hazard to replace Anelka

And if Drogba goes replace him with another attacking player with the quintet of Hazard, Sturridge, Mata, Torres, Ramires rotating positions
