Some interesting news regarding the future of Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger today, as the Daily Mail are running an exclusive claiming that Real Madrid are interested in luring him to the Bernabeau.

The report says that Jose Mourinho’s relationship with the Real Madrid players and club officials is broken beyond repair and Wenger is on a two-man shortlist along with Germany coach Joachim Low to replace him.

Mourinho has come under severe pressure at Madrid recently and was booed by his own fans during Sunday’s 4-1 win over Athletic Bilbao. The animosity stems from reports that he had a training ground bust-up with Sergio Ramos and Iker Casillas but Mourinho has claimed the boos do not bother him:

‘I’m not bothered by the whistles at me,’ he said. ‘It’s not a problem. It’s the first time it’s ever happened to me. There’s a first time for practically everything.

‘(Zinedine) Zidane was whistled at here. Ronaldo has been whistled at here. Cristiano (Ronaldo), who is the latest Golden Boot winner, has also been whistled at. Why can’t I?

‘Zidane responded with his football, the same as Ronaldo and Cristiano. I work hard to be able to respond like they did some day, but there may come a day when the fans are sad.’

Arsene Wenger’s own future has come in to question after a third successive defeat on Sunday, with many fans questioning whether he’s still the right man to lead the club forward.

The Frenchman is believed to have turned down the Real Madrid job back in 2009 (source: Daily Mail) but this latest report suggests that the Spanish giants hope they can persuade Wenger to leave Arsenal this time with the lure of a big transfer budget and the challenge of taking on Barcelona.
